Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 780

Dean finally seemed to make up his mind. “Alright, you’re right.” He glanced at Emmy, determination settling on his face. “I’ll take this time to figure out who’s really pulling the strings behind Nelson Corporation, the one who keeps messing with me.”

He looked at Emmy, a hopeful glint in his eyes. “Emmy, if you have any ideas…”

“I don’t,” Emmy interrupted without hesitation. “Business stuff just isn’t my thing.”

Dean let out a quiet sigh, realizing he was asking too much. Back when they were married, he used to talk her ear off about work, sharing every detail of company politics and business drama. No matter how many stories he told, she never really seemed interested. Emmy would always look a little lost, as if he were speaking another language. Still, she’d listen until the very end, her pretty face turned up to him, eyes sparkling as she told him how amazing he was.

It was that sweet, unwavering trust and admiration that made him want to share everything with her. Every investment, every industry win, every little success—he would tell her all of it, down to the smallest detail. But the truth was, she never cared about any of that. She just cared about him.

Emmy barely ate half of her steak before setting her knife and fork aside. She dabbed her mouth with a napkin and said, “I’m kind of tired. I’ll head back first.”

Just before leaving, she paused and turned to look at Dean with a hint of concern. “Don’t invest in anything while you’re taking this break, okay? I’d hate to see you lose big.”

Dean’s eyes lit up, joy flickering across his face. “You’re worried about me?”

Emmy met his gaze and nodded, quiet and sincere. She didn’t say anything else, just stood up and walked away.

Dean couldn’t help but smile, watching her go. She still cared. The thought filled him with a happiness so strong it seemed to rush through every part of him. Suddenly, he was starving. He polished off the rest of his steak, then pulled Emmy’s half-eaten plate in front of him and finished that too, savoring every bite. It tasted better than anything he’d ever eaten.

Meanwhile, Emmy didn’t even spare James a glance as she left the restaurant.
