Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 867

A sudden roar split the night. High above, a helicopter circled, its searchlight sweeping over the dark waves. The beam glided right across Emmy, once, twice, then again, lighting up her tangled hair and pale face. She stared up, silent and unmoving. She could have jumped up, waved her arms, screamed until her voice was hoarse. But she didn’t. She just sat there, empty-eyed, watching the light fade and the engine’s echo dissolve into the crash of the sea. When it was gone, she hugged her knees to her chest, buried her face, and drifted into a heavy sleep.

Emmy woke to something soft and ticklish brushing her skin. She blinked into the bright morning, sunlight already blazing down. She glanced at her legs and froze. A lizard, bright and speckled, was sprawled across her lap, flicking its tongue at her with lazy curiosity.

“Ah!” she yelped, scrambling up. The lizard tumbled into the grass, vanishing in a flash of color. Emmy took a shaky breath and looked around. Everything was still strange and unfamiliar. Her stomach let out a long, hollow grumble. She sighed, then made her way to the shore, hoping to find something to eat.

The sea was generous. Emmy dove under the waves, searching the reef until she found a handful of sea urchins wedged in the rocks. She cracked one open with a stone, scooped out the golden flesh, and was about to take a bite when she heard the unmistakable thump of a helicopter above. This time, the chopper didn’t just circle. It swooped down, landing right on the sand.

The door flew open and Dean jumped out, wild-eyed and frantic. He rushed over, grabbing Emmy by the shoulders. His whole body shook with barely-contained anger and fear.

“Emmy! What do you think you’re doing?” His voice trembled. “Do you have any idea how dangerous this was? How many times have I told you not to run off alone? Why don’t you ever listen to me?”

Emmy finished cleaning the sea urchin, unfazed by his outburst. She held it out to him, her voice calm and flat. “Want some?”

Dean just stared, his chest heaving, too furious for words. When he didn’t answer, Emmy shrugged and pulled the urchin back. “Fine. I’ll eat it.”

Just as she brought it to her lips, Dean swatted it from her hand. The urchin hit the sand with a dull smack.

“Emmy, are you even listening to me?” he yelled.
