Dumped Omega? Now Their Alpha King Begs at My Feet novel Chapter 69

Kai's POV

She turned her back on me and walked away.

I just stood there, completely frozen. My mind was a blank slate. I couldn't form a single thought.

I had just offered her the power of a king. I had offered to burn the world down for her.

And she had said no. She had said it like I was offering her a cup of tea she didn't want.

My Alpha brain was screaming. It was a complete breakdown of every rule I had ever known. The weak are protected by the strong. The hurt seek vengeance from their Alpha.

She had just taken the rulebook, ripped it to shreds, and set it on fire.

For a split second, a hot flash of pure, primal anger went through me. It was the instinct of the Alpha, the core of my being. I had been defied. My authority had been challenged.

I felt my fists clench at my sides.

Just as she reached the library doors, I found my voice.

"So that's it?" I called out, my voice sharp. "You're just going to walk away and do nothing?"

She stopped, her hand on the door handle, but she didn't turn around.

"I didn't say I was going to do nothing," she said, her voice cool and clear, echoing slightly in the vast, empty space. "I said I take out my own trash."

With that, she opened the door and disappeared inside, leaving me alone on the balcony.

The anger inside me suddenly vanished. It was washed away by something else. Something I hadn't felt in a very, very long time.
