Alex felt like he had hit rock bottom. Betraying a friend's trust for personal gain? That was low, even for him. And now, he couldn't even bear the thought of facing Quintessa.
What was he thinking? Trying to play the hero with borrowed valor? Just the thought made him realize he could never truly compete with Quintessa.
What did he have to fight with anyway?
Besides, he knew all too well the skeletons in the Harrington family's closet. He himself had chosen to escape, preferring the life of a lawyer over taking the reins of the family business. How could he even think of dragging Quintessa back into that mess?
"Thank you..." That was all Alex could muster.
Serena wiped away her tears. "Thank you, Quinn. Thank you so much..."
She reached out to Mrs. Harrington. "Mom, Quinn isn't like that. I've told you countless times, those online rumors are just fake news. If Quinn was really so terrible, why would both Alex and Ty like her? A girl who can catch the eye of those two can't be all bad, right?"
Quintessa was taken aback by Serena's words. Was it just her, or did Serena's attempt to defend her sound more like she was painting her as some kind of siren who'd enchanted two men at once?
Looking around, except for Ty, whose expression remained sour, everyone else seemed... normal.

Mrs. York chuckled. "Oh, the irony. Weren't you the 'other woman' when you married Christ Harrington? And he had a fiancée at the time, if memory serves."
Mrs. Harrington's face turned a shade of beetroot.
Ty remained silent, deciding that his grandmother was more formidable when targeting others than when targeting him.
