Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 422

In her first week of classes, Emma Bennett settled in seamlessly, quickly finding her place among the teachers and students.

She was the only one in her class with a physical disability, and she'd worried she might be met with strange looks. But to her relief, no one seemed to focus on her leg. Perhaps some noticed, but they never brought it up, treating her as if there were nothing unusual at all, which was exactly how she liked it.

On the morning of her second week, as she was returning to campus from her aunt's house, she spotted a familiar figure at the school gate. He was holding a bouquet of lily of the valley, standing right in her path, and grinning with a smile so bright it could have chased away the city's gloomy, overcast sky.

"Sebastian Remington! What are you doing here?" Emma asked, approaching him with mock seriousness.

Sebastian's smile only grew wider. "I was dropping my sister off at her school and thought I'd stop by to see you."

He held the flowers out to her. "Congratulations on your new beginning."

Emma smiled. For her, this truly was a fresh start.

"By the way, I'm living not too far from here. Want to come over for dinner tonight?" Sebastian asked, the tips of his ears turning a faint shade of red.

"So what's Genevieve studying?" Emma asked, having assumed he was talking about the place he'd arranged for his sister.

"Oh, she's got a million interests. She loves dancing, loves painting… it changes by the minute. She ended up enrolling in an art school," Sebastian explained. "You go on to class. I'll pick you up tonight. My sister will be thrilled to know you're here."

Emma nodded with a smile. "Okay!"
