Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 461

After the second show, Emma and Sebastian made a few final adjustments to the choreography, locking in the version they would take to Edinburgh.

By then, it was nearly summer.

Emma's thesis was approved, and soon after, she and Sebastian had to fly back home to renew their visas. She left Faith in charge of rehearsals, instructing the troupe to communicate any issues through their group chat.

Sebastian's official residence was in Capital City, so he went there first to gather his documents, while Emma flew back to Cresthaven. Her brother was out of the country, but his trusted assistant, Latham, was there to pick her up from the airport.

"Mr. Fairchild!" Emma cried, a wave of excitement washing over her as she breathed in the familiar Cresthaven air. The past was like smoke, the pain fading with it. Two years ago, she had been desperate to escape, but now she understood what home truly meant. The city's every contour was etched into her very being.

Latham watched her run toward him, a look of deep satisfaction on his face. Though not a blood relative, he had worked for her brother for years and had witnessed her long, arduous journey out of the darkness. To see her running, strong and free, felt like a long-overdue reward from fate.

He drove her back to the family home, which was currently occupied only by Fallon, the housekeeper, her daughter, and their security detail.

Fallon was so overjoyed to see her that she nearly burst into tears. Her daughter, Marcia, stepped forward and addressed her respectfully as "Miss Bennett."

Emma gently pinched her cheek. "Have you been reading too many historical novels? None of this ‘Miss' business. Just call me Emma."

Marcia blushed and shyly murmured, "Emma."

"That's better!" Emma flopped onto the sofa. "Fallon, it feels so good to be home! You have to make me all your specialties while I'm here."

"That's nonsense," Carlisle scoffed. "You probably had no idea how many guys had crushes on you, sending you snacks and writing you love letters."

Emma was baffled. She had never received a single love letter.

Carlisle let out a cold laugh. "And do you know why you never received them?"

Renee nudged him, trying to shut him up. It was all in the past; Emma and Theodore were divorced. There was no point in dredging it all up.

"Why?" Emma asked, her curiosity piqued.
