"The location is just an approximation. It's not that precise," he said, clutching his phone, his evasion becoming more obvious. "By the way, there's something I need to tell you…"
"Give me the phone," Emma demanded, holding out her hand.
Theodore didn't move, just looked at her. "Do we really have to do this?"
"Give it to me!" Yes, they really did. "Theodore, don't try to pull anything on me! A proper ex should act like they're dead. That goes for you, and it goes for me. Don't make Anna go through the same hell I did!"
Resignation filled Theodore's eyes. He finally placed the phone in her hand.
"Unlock it!" she commanded, holding the phone up to his face.
She opened the tracking app, but her phone wasn't there.
"What is this? You lied to me? My phone isn't even on your list! Don't tell me you deleted it in the car just now!" Emma, fuming, swiped through his phone and saw she was still listed under his family sharing plan. "Unlink this! And anything else you have tied to me, unlink it all!"
She threw the phone back at him. "Explain yourself. Why did you lie? How did you know I was on that ship?"
Theodore was silent for a moment before answering quietly, "Because of Cecilia Chambers."
Emma forcefully shrugged off his hands. "See? I wasn't wrong about a single thing! Meeting you was the worst luck of my life! You're a curse!"
"Emma, can you just calm down?"
"I can't calm down! I was finally starting to live my own life, and then I come back and this happens. Cecilia was under supervision. Wasn't she only out of prison because she was pregnant? What about the baby? Is she carrying some kind of demon that never gets born? How did she escape custody?"
"It's complicated." Theodore's brow furrowed. "She actually disappeared a few months ago. She used a miscarriage as an excuse to get admitted to the hospital and then escaped from there. The baby was lost then. She has some ties to the criminal underworld overseas, and it's possible those people came looking for her."
Emma nodded slowly. "I'm curious. How did you find me? And how did you report it to the police?"
