In that moment, Sebastian’s hand felt less like a lover’s touch and more like a shackle. “Sebastian, is this really necessary? What kind of person do you think I am?”
Panic flickered in his eyes. He squeezed her hand gently. “I just… I just love you so much. I’m scared…”
Remembering his words from that morning—*don’t go to bed angry, solve problems right away*—Emma tried to keep her emotions in check. “Sebastian, this can’t go on,” she said, her voice steady. “My life can’t just be about you. I have friends, a career, and colleagues. There will always be other men in my life. If you’re going to assume there’s something going on with every single one of them, then this is never going to work.”
His expression fell. “I know. It’s my fault. Forgive me, just this once. I won’t do it again.”
“You’ve said that before,” she reminded him, her gaze unwavering.
“I promise,” he said, looking down. “This time, I really promise.”
“Let’s just eat,” Emma said, dropping the subject.
“Okay,” he agreed, his grip on her hand tightening. “Baby, I really do love you.”
Emma managed a weak smile. “I know.”
Starting a relationship wasn’t easy. She hoped this would be her last. She hoped there was still a chance to fix things.
That afternoon, Emma went to the Wellness Center for her physical therapy. The sessions usually lasted two to three hours, and Sebastian always stayed with her. This time, as they were leaving, it was shift change for the nurses. Emma noticed that every nurse arriving for the evening shift was carrying a bag of pastries from Theodore’s shop.
She pretended not to see, not wanting to set Sebastian off again.

The day-shift nurses sighed with disappointment.

At these words, Sebastian’s face paled. He quickly urged Emma, “Baby, let’s go. We still have another rehearsal session.”
“Okay,” Emma replied, still acting as if she hadn’t heard a thing. She packed her bag, planning to say a quick goodbye to Dr. Crimson and schedule her next appointment.
