Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 498

“Are you alright, Miss? Let me help you,” Allen offered. Larson’s bodyguards were highly trained professionals; he wore long sleeves and gloves, ensuring his hand never made direct contact with her skin as he supported her arm.

Emma wanted to refuse, waving a hand and saying, “I’m fine,” but as she took another step, her leg, numb from exhaustion and being curled up in the car, buckled again.

This time, the bodyguard took a firm hold of her arm and said something to his partner. Emma couldn’t quite catch the word, but it sounded like he was asking him to fetch something.

By the time they reached her front door, the feeling had returned to her legs. She stood on her own and assured the bodyguard she was okay. Just then, the other guard returned with the item Allen had requested: a massage gun.

“We use these after training,” Allen explained, handing it to her. “It’s been sanitized, so you can use it without worry.” He hesitated. “Do you know how?”

“Yes, I do. Thank you,” Emma said, accepting it without protest.

“Alright. Call us if you need anything.”

Emma nodded and went inside.

Once home, she used the massage gun on her sore muscles until she felt some relief. It was only then that she realized there was no food. Sebastian, in his fit of pique, hadn’t cooked. So Emma made herself a simple bowl of noodles, throwing in whatever she could find in the fridge—an egg, some tomatoes, a few strips of bacon. It turned out surprisingly delicious.

Perhaps it was the exhaustion, but she fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow and slept soundly through the night, waking up late the next morning.

Realizing she was already late for rehearsal, she cursed under her breath, grabbed a piece of toast, and rushed out the door, eating as she went.

Sebastian was standing at her gate.

A surge of fury shot through Emma. She raised her hand to slap him, but stopped herself at the last second.

His sneer deepened. “Are you going to hit me? You’re actually going to hit me for your ex-husband? Why don’t you just go back to him, then?”

The world went dark for a moment. She swayed on her feet.

Were these words really coming from Sebastian? Was this the same person she knew? How could someone change so drastically from a friend to a lover?
