Even Sebastian, despite the silent, icy treatment he was giving Emma, remained professional during rehearsals. But that's where it ended.
He started coming and going alone, no longer walking with her, and certainly not waiting to drive her home at night.
Gradually, Emma got used to the new routine.
After finishing her solo practice each night, she'd just walk to the main road just off campus, where her bodyguard's car would be waiting for her, always on time.
That day marked their final rehearsal before the flight to Edinburgh.
Emma didn't push the dancers too long. After a light walk-through in the afternoon, she sent them home to rest up for their early flight the next morning.
Naturally, Sebastian left with the rest of the dancers.
After tidying up, Emma headed to the Wellness Center for her usual physical therapy session.
She was planning to grab a quick coffee and a sandwich to tide her over, but as she approached a nearby café, she stopped short. Through the large glass door, she saw Sebastian and Faith sitting inside.
They were face-to-face, their heads bent together as they whispered intimately about something.
The moment Emma appeared outside the glass, Sebastian's gaze flickered in her direction.
She couldn't be sure if he'd actually seen her, but he gave no sign of recognition.
Or maybe he hadn't noticed?
It seemed unlikely.
She didn't go in, turning instead and heading straight for the Wellness Center.
After her session, she returned to the rehearsal hall for her personal recovery exercises. By the time she finished, it was very late.
Figuring Sebastian was even less likely to pick her up tonight, she shouldered her bag and started the walk toward the edge of campus.
She never expected to run into four drunks just before she reached the main road.
