Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 504

Although his words were convincing, Faith still felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach. Something felt wrong. "Sebastian, this has gone on long enough. Let's just go in now. Makeup takes hours, we're going to be late."

"No. We've held out this long, we have to stick with it until the very end," Sebastian insisted. He was determined to make Emma understand his importance, to prove he was indispensable.

"But what if? What if Emma really doesn't ask us back?" As the minutes ticked by and her phone remained silent, Faith's anxiety grew into full-blown panic.

"Relax. You know what Emma is like. This ballet means more to her than her own life. Do you really think she'd let it fail? Someone will call us any minute now." Sebastian knew exactly how much this performance meant to Emma, which made it the perfect leverage. She would never let anything jeopardize the show.

But as time slipped away, the sky darkened, and the audience began to file into the theater, both his and Faith's phones remained silent.

Faith couldn't take it anymore. She tried calling the dancer who had been her contact for the past two days, but the call went straight to voicemail.

"She must be busy with makeup. It's over, Sebastian. I never should have listened to you!" Faith was on the verge of a complete meltdown.

Sebastian shot her a cold look. "You weren't complaining when you were accepting those Hermès bags, were you? All three of them."

Faith fell silent.

"It's fine," he said, trying to reassure her. "Think about it. How can they perform without us? The show will probably be a disaster. They'll announce a postponement or a cancellation any second. Come on, let's go inside and watch." Sebastian blended in with the audience and entered the theater.

With no other choice, Faith followed him. They found seats in the last row and waited.

The house lights were still up, the stage hidden behind a heavy curtain.

"There's no sign of a cancellation," Faith whispered anxiously.
