Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 509

"I already told you. It's over," Emma said without turning back, disappearing into the elevator with her bodyguards.

Sebastian stared after her, his expression a mixture of anger and disbelief.

Just then, his phone rang. It was his sister.

"Seb, did you see the news? A student was attacked on campus a couple of nights ago. They caught the guys who did it. Look at the picture… isn't that girl Emma?"

Sebastian pulled up the news on his phone. There it was.

The girl in the photo was blurred out, but she was wearing a black T-shirt. Next to her was a man, also in a black T-shirt. The builds of both figures were painfully familiar: Emma and Theodore.

The photo captured the moment the girl was getting into a car. Though the license plate wasn't visible, the model and color of the car were identical to the one Allen always drove.

So, Theodore was driving her home that night because she had been attacked…

She had been attacked, and he wasn't there for her.

"Emma! Emma!" he yelled, racing toward the elevators, but the doors had already closed.

He frantically called her phone.

To his surprise, she answered.

The second the call connected, he launched into a desperate torrent of words. "Baby, I'm so sorry. I didn't know what happened that night. I was wrong. I shouldn't have been so petty and refused to pick you up. I shouldn't have made those awful comments about you and Theodore. I thought… I was wrong, okay? I just… I had no idea what was really going on."

He rambled on, but the other end of the line was completely silent.

He started to wonder if she was even listening.
