“Afterward, another passing car stopped. A man and a woman got out. The woman had a large stomach; she must have been pregnant.”
Lindsey’s heart suddenly jumped into her throat. She couldn’t help but ask, “And then?”
“The two of them went to rescue the people. They pulled the driver out of the car, but sadly, the driver was already dead. They then pulled an old person out of the back seat. The elderly person was still alive and kept shouting that there was someone else in the back seat, a child, and that they had to save the child. The young man went back to rescue the others. The woman seemed worried and tried to stop him, but the man insisted on going back. He found a child in the car, but the car was already very dangerous by then.”
The middle–aged man paused here, swallowing hard, his eyes full of fear as he continued hesitantly.
“Then, then the car exploded! It was a huge bang, very terrifying! The man had guts. Before the explosion, he saw it coming and pushed the child out, but his own eg was stuck inside. He couldn’t get out and was immediately engulfed by the fire.”
The middle–aged man stopped here, looking at Lindsey
“Did you see what they looked like?”
He nodded.
“Do you still remember? Can you recognize them?”
He nodded again.
Lindsey took a deep breath. “Bring the photos.”
A stack of photos, male and female, all different people, was presented.
“Point out the people you saw.”
Lindsey was still cautious.
The middle–aged man shrank his neck, carefully recalling and comparing the pictures, finally selecting two.
“It was these two people. I didn’t misremember. I’ve been having recurring nightmares all these years, thinking if I had been a little braver back then and lent a hand, maybe it wouldn’t have…”
The middle–aged man couldn’t finish.
When Lindsey saw the photos he selected, she nearly lost her footing, almost collapsing, and had to be firmly supported by the butler.
“Madam Lindsey! Quickly, call an ambulance!”
Lindsey waved her hand. “No need!” She looked back at the middle–aged man. “Are you certain?”
The middle–aged man straightened his chest. “I swear on my life! I am absolutely not joking! I haven’t been able to eat or sleep well all these years, just thinking about this, hating myself for being a coward!”
“What happened next? After the car exploded?”

“Well, then an ambulance came and took those people way. I saw the pregnant woman seemed to have fainted instantly and was carried off! What a tragedy, carying a child and suffering such a blow. I feared she must have suffered a great deal!”
“Which hospital were they taken to?”
“How would I know that? I didn’t follow them. Those people left too quickly.”
There was no more information to be extracted.
The information alone was enough to prevent Lindseyrom calming down for a long time.
She took a moment to absorb it, then looked deeply at the middle–aged man. “What is your name?”
“Dan.”
“If there is a single lie in your story…”
“Then may I be cursed forever!”
Lindsey called in a few trusted confidants and instructed them. “Investigate the location he mentioned, verify his story, immediately!”
“Yes.”
According to Dan, Yvonne’s husband must have died at the scene, but Yvonne was fine. She still had the child in her belly, so mother and daughter should still be alive.
This once again allowed a ray of light to shine into Lindsey’s previously gloomy heart.
Until the truth was confirmed, the man, Dan, was extremely important. Lindsey softened her expression. “Are you hungry? I’ll have someone get you something to eat. You will stay here for now. If you have any needs, tell them, and they will accommodate you.”
Dan nodded awkwardly, showing hesitation. Gritting his teeth, he spoke up. “Could you… lend me some money? My son is sick and needs surgery. The fee for the operation…”
Lindsey expressed understanding and had ten thousand dollars fetched for him temporarily, promising him another million once the matter was confirmed.
Dan was dizzy with the sudden influx of cash, nearly bowing down in gratitude.
“There’s no need to thank me. Just don’t lie to me.”
“I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare.”
Lindsey tidied her appearance and returned to the banquet hall, instructing the butler to watch over Dan carefully and ensure absolutely no accidents occurred.
She paused, the fatigue and age that had previously marked her face suddenly replaced by a vibrant glow. “Contact my lawyer for me. Some things need to be changed.”
If her daughter was still alive, then everything should belong ther!
“Grandmother, what happened? What’s wrong? Why did you leave so suddenly?”
