Chapter 86 Not Yet

Leonardo’s POV:

Gazing into Natalie’s anxious eyes and feeling her spontaneous hug, I knew I’d really frightened her.

The sight of her red-rimmed eyes and blatant panic filled my chest with a strange, comforting warmth. She truly cared about me.

This thought soothed me more effectively than any pain-relieving drug.

“Don’t fret. It’s just a few minor scrapes,” I said, clasping her hand that was trying to examine my wounds. The coolness of her fingertips sent a little thrill through me. More than the need to go to the hospital, I was troubled by breaking my promise for dinner.

“I’m sorry I missed our dinner date,” I told her, a twinge of guilt gnawing at me. I always honored my commitments, especially those to her.

Natalie’s POV:

As I heard Leonardo’s apology and saw the bandage on his forehead and the bruises on his face, my heart ached. It felt as if it were being squeezed, a blend of soreness and softness. Tears welled up in my eyes. He’d been in an accident, yet his first concern was apologizing for missing our dinner.

“Dinner isn’t that important. You could have just called it off if you couldn’t make it…..” I murmured, my voice quivering.

“What I promise you is always significant. And it’s Valentine’s Day. We should be together,” he interjected, his tone resolute and earnest, almost obstinate in a way that didn’t quite fit his usual composed demeanor.

Spending Valentine’s Day together? Coming from the ever-composed Leonardo, it sounded so uncharacteristic, as if our date were a vital mission. But there was something about his determination that tugged at my heart.

“Valentine’s Day is already over, Mr. Sanchez,” I said, forcing a smile.

“Not yet,” he stated firmly. Then, his warm, rough hand enveloped mine, pulling me along. “Let’s go.”

“Where are we going at this late hour?” I was being dragged out of the door, still worried about his injuries. “You need to rest. You’re hurt…”

But he didn’t let me object. In my hurry, I only managed to grab the gift bag with the sapphire cufflinks from the hallway.

Leonardo took me to the rooftop by elevator. The night wind howled, and the huge propellers of a helicopter were spinning slowly. The strong airflow tousled our hair and ruffled our clothes. Aaron jumped out of the helicopter and walked towards us with a smile.

“Ms. Anderson, get on the helicopter. You’ll understand once you’re up there,” he said, then nodded at Leonardo to indicate that everything was set.

Leonardo draped his coat over my shoulders. It still held his fresh pine-like fragrance and a faint hint of medicine. “Cold?” he asked, his voice slightly muffled by the wind.

I shook my head, my cheeks flushing. “Not cold. But where are we going? I’m completely unprepared…”

“No need for preparation,” he said, his deep voice reassuring.

I nodded and followed him onto the helicopter without asking any more questions.

Leonardo’s POV:

In the helicopter, Natalie sat across from me. She seemed a bit on edge, yet her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Right then, I knew I had to make amends. The sight of her standing alone outside the shuttered restaurant had etched that resolve deep in my heart. Aaron had clued me in that it was Valentine’s Day, a big deal for mates. I’d blown our dinner, but I wasn’t about to let this day go to waste.

I’d had the helicopter stocked with her favorite grub and treats. As I watched her slice into the cake so daintily, she reminded me of a skittish little pup, slowly edging closer, yearning for some warmth. I was not good at saying sweet words. All I could do was show my feelings through actions as much as possible.

“Just having you here is the best present ever,” Natalie said in a soft voice, and then she passed me this purple velvet box. “I hope you dig it. I picked it based on what I like. Go ahead and open it. If it’s not your thing…”

I didn’t wait for her to finish. I popped the box open right away. Inside were these one-of-a- kind sapphire cufflinks. The color was as deep as the ocean at night. They were so her, calm but full of power. “These are awesome. I love them,” I told her, meaning every word. Natalie had an amazing eye for gifts, just as spot-on and special as she was.

I gave it a shot to put them on, but I was lost.
