In that fleeting moment, as Lillian's thoughts drifted, everyone else stood up. Colin strode towards her with a wide smile.
He reached for her hand, but she instinctively pulled back.-
Colin’s hand was left hanging in the air, a look of surprise on his face. They had always been the closest of siblings.
He stared at her short, prison-cut hair, finding it deeply unsettling. In her pampered days, hundreds of thousands were spent annually just to maintain her lustrous, seaweed-like locks. Now, seeing her with this simple, stark hairstyle—thinner, it seemed—threw him off.
“It’s good to have you back, Lillian. I know these last two years have been hard on you. But don’t worry, now that you’re home, everything will be just like it was before.”
Just like it was before?
How could it be? Her record now included a three-year prison sentence. She was branded with the crime of intentionally harming the grandmother who had loved her most. In the eyes of her family, society, and even her own son, how could anything ever be the same?
Besides, her father's mistress, Sabrina Ward, and her husband's other woman, Bella, were in her home. Nothing was the same anymore.
On the day of the incident, she refused to believe that no one saw the truth. Yet, they all closed ranks and pointed their fingers at her.
Things had changed long ago.
As Lillian’s heart turned to ash, Martin glanced at Sebastian.
Sebastian walked over to her.
He spoke first. “Everything I promised you still stands. I’ve set aside your share of the dividends from the past two years, with a bonus. Now that you’re out, you can live here, or if you prefer to stay with your family, I can go with you.”
Lillian looked up at him in astonishment, searching his eyes.
