At Litech NaLabs, an assistant knocked on Nathan's door. "Mr. Cole, the Blake Group just called to postpone the meeting by an hour."
Just as he finished speaking, Lillian knocked and entered. Nathan glanced at her, then turned back to his assistant. "Are they kidding? Do they really think my schedule revolves around the Blake Group? Cancel it."
While he was speaking, Lillian had found a chair and sat down. Nathan quickly dismissed his assistant and walked over to her. Noticing the dark cloud hanging over her, he brewed a cup of tea and placed it in front of her before daring to speak.
"Li, what's wrong?"
"The Li Algorithm," Lillian said, her voice flat. "Am I still the one who calls the shots?"
"Of course!" Nathan replied instantly. "Even if God himself came down and asked for it, I wouldn't make a move without your approval."
"So, all those partnership requests for the Li Algorithm over the years... they were all rejected because you couldn't reach me?"
"What else? Without your word, who would dare make that decision on their own?"
Lillian was confused. "Then what's all this with the Blake Group..."
"The Blake Group has been pushing some really great concepts these last two years. Their new products always seem to set the trend. So, it's good to stay in touch. I'm in management now, it's not easy," Nathan lamented, trying to inject some humor into the conversation. "I used to get excited just to attend a business meeting and hit the coffee break. Now, it's my entire job. Can you feel my pain?"
He saw her mood was low and hoped a little humor might help.
Finally, a small smile touched Lillian's lips, though it was cold. Nathan immediately caught on. "Wait a minute. Did those people give you trouble? How did they manage to get under your skin?"
Lillian suddenly changed the subject. "By the way, do you know an old Mr. Montrose from Sevria Bay?"
"The legendary tycoon from Sevria Bay? I haven't had the pleasure. Why?"
Lillian shook her head. "Never mind." So, not even Nathan knew him.
"You've been in this department for two days now. Ready to move to IT?"
