But Tyler just wouldn’t agree.
The very next moment—
Bzzz. Bzzz.
Emilia’s phone vibrated, Felix’s name flashing on the screen.
This time, without hesitation, she snatched up her phone and answered.
“Yes, Felix, it’s me,” she said directly. “We’re in a private room on the second floor. Would you come pick us up? Sorry to trouble you.”
With that, she hung up, cradling Bella in her arms as they waited.
Tyler was furious, but there wasn’t much he could do.
He’d thought after all his efforts—everything he’d said, bringing her all the way here—she might finally calm down. He’d even sensed her mood softening just moments ago.
So why was she calling Felix now?
After all these years, Tyler had always believed he understood her. But in just this past month, she’d become a stranger, drifting further away with each day. Why was she suddenly so stubborn?
She’d just said she understood Vivienne’s illness hadn’t lasted long. Yet she was still upset.
“Emilia.” He called her name, but she just hugged Bella tighter, refusing to speak.
Tyler tried to find the words, but before he could, there was a knock at the door.
Emilia immediately stood, holding Bella, and went to open it.
But when she did, she found not one person, but three.
Felix was there, along with Secretary Jensen and a woman—presumably the driver Secretary Jensen had brought along.
Felix stepped inside almost immediately, taking his place at Emilia and Bella’s side.
Secretary Jensen looked bewildered. Hadn’t Mr. Erickson just asked him to bring a female driver to help out? Why was Felix here? And the tension in the room, especially the way Tyler was looking at Felix—it was intense.
But when you finally let go, it only takes a moment. Once the decision is made, once your heart is truly hardened, you can do it.
Emilia carried Bella down the stairs, and together, they made their way to Felix’s car waiting outside.
“Mr. Erickson?” Secretary Jensen and the female driver glanced from Emilia to Tyler, clearly at a loss.
“Get in the car,” Tyler snapped, already striding down the steps.
As Emilia’s car pulled away, Tyler climbed into the back of his own Mercedes.
The female driver took the wheel, Secretary Jensen sat up front, and kept nervously glancing at Tyler through the rearview mirror.
“Follow them,” Tyler ordered coldly.
He was going to keep watch.
At least until Felix was no longer by Emilia’s side.
