CelestiMed branch office.
Julian Xavier received a call from the reception desk.
"Mr. Xavier, there’s a lady named Lana Xavier who says she wants to deliver something to you, but she doesn’t have an appointment."
Upon hearing Lana Xavier’s name, Julian Xavier slightly frowned, but soon his brow relaxed.
"Let her in!"
Julian Xavier hung up the phone, a slight smile playing on his lips.
In his life so far, he’s been with quite a few women.
But someone as silly as Lana Xavier, he’s never met before.
Every date with Lana Xavier so far had been at a hotel.
He had never done anything for Lana Xavier, just used her as a convenient release.
Yet Lana Xavier never complained.
Not only did she not complain, she never even questioned.
As long as he said some sweet words to coax her, Lana Xavier believed he loved her.
In Julian Xavier’s memory, this was the first time Lana Xavier had actively come to find him at his company.
Perhaps besides the company, Lana Xavier didn’t know where else to find him.
Julian Xavier was curious to see what item Lana Xavier had come all this way to deliver to him.
Knock knock!
Soon, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
The receptionist opened the door, and then Julian Xavier saw Lana Xavier.
With spring here, Lana Xavier was no longer bundled up like in winter.
Among the women in professional attire in the company, Lana Xavier stood out in her t-shirt, jeans, and baseball jacket.
This was what Lana Xavier usually liked to wear, convenient and comfortable.
However, she originally intended to dress more femininely to meet Julian Xavier today.
That day, while shopping with Serena Jennings, she bought a bunch of colorful little dresses. Although Serena mentioned they weren’t her style and she didn’t really like them.
But she thought wearing those little dresses might please men.
In the past, Lana Xavier actually looked down on women who lost themselves for love.
To change oneself into what a boyfriend likes, she always thought was a silly thing to do.
It wasn’t until she fell for Julian Xavier that she truly understood those women.
Her feelings and changes were something Serena could understand. However, Serena, speaking from experience, advised her to be herself in front of her partner for a better relationship.
Showing her real self was the way to truly connect, Serena said, and Lana Xavier heeded her advice by dressing in her usual style today.
However, seeing Julian Xavier’s subtle eyebrow twitch as he appraised her made Lana instantly regret her decision.
She shouldn’t have listened to Serena and dressed in her usual tomboyish style.
If she had worn one of the cute, ladylike dresses, Julian Xavier surely wouldn’t have frowned.
Lana’s heart pounded like a drum, timidly walking toward Julian Xavier, almost tripping over her own feet and barely managing to hold onto the box in her hands.
Luckily, Julian Xavier steadied her just in time, also catching the box she was carrying.
The close distance allowed their gazes to meet, Julian Xavier’s eyes, bright as starlight, held an irresistible charm, making Lana’s heart race and her face flush red.
Despite having been intimate with Julian Xavier many times, his deep, affectionate gaze always made her shy to the point of wanting to hide.
"Be careful. I’d feel bad if you got hurt."
Julian Xavier gently tapped Lana’s forehead with indulgence before placing the box on his desk.
"Did you come all this way just to give me this?"
Julian Xavier began to open the box himself.
When he saw the large cake inside, there was no look of surprise in his eyes.
Cakes and sweets weren’t to his liking.
And the cake Lana brought looked rather rough; it couldn’t compare with those from fancy patisseries, not even from a local bakery.
Bringing something like this all the way to his company?
Looking like a tomboy with no trace of femininity, Julian couldn’t help but internally sneer.
"Didn’t you mention last time that the new system development wasn’t going smoothly and you’ve been working overtime recently? So... I thought I’d bring you something as a surprise to cheer you up."
"Oh really..."
Julian opened his mouth to receive the cake, and his expression unexpectedly lit up with delight.
He didn’t enjoy sweets and seldom ate cakes, always finding creams and cheeses overwhelmingly rich and sweet to the point of discomfort.
However, the cake Lana baked was unexpectedly delicious.
The whipped cream was light and sweet without being overwhelming. Despite its rough appearance, the texture was surprisingly good.
Seeing Julian silent, Lana’s anxiety soared, her heart almost leaping to her throat.
"Is it... not good?"
She hesitantly asked.
While she knew she wasn’t skilled at cooking, after many attempts, she thought the taste should be decent if not perfect in appearance.
"It’s very good."
Julian took up a fork himself, quickly finishing the huge slice of cake.
"Really? I’m glad you like it."
Lana’s joy was palpable.
She’d never seen Julian eat so voraciously before!
"Yes, I really like it. This is the best cake I’ve ever had."
Seeing Julian speak so earnestly, Lana held her flushed cheeks, smiling contentedly.
Julian had told many lies to Lana.
In fact, he had hardly ever spoken truth to her.
But this time, he was sincere.
Together, Julian and Lana finished the cake.
Lana’s feelings were transparent.
Her flushed face likely assumed his compliments were due to affection for her, extending to her cake as well.
In reality, it was not so.
Julian praised only the cake.
Just as they were finishing, Lana’s phone rang, the caller ID showing it was Serena.
