Lucas and my father immediately rushed toward Clarissa.
No one noticed the blood seeping between my legs.
Lucas wrapped Clarissa in his coat; my father supported Grace.
A swarm of people hurried to the hospital.
Before leaving, Lucas turned back to look at me, his eyes full of disappointment.
“Claire, I’ve spoiled you too much. Think about what you’ve done.”
In the blink of an eye, the banquet hall was empty.
Trembling, I called the hospital–only to be told all my secondary bank cards had been frozen.
I looked at the “Heart of True Love” lying on the floor and laughed through tears.
So this so–called affection was just a game–A golden cage for a canary.
They gave me the best cage, the finest food,
only so I’d believe I was a princess.
But the moment I disobeyed, they cut me off completely, waiting for me to bow my head and
admit fault.
This kind of “love“? I didn’t want it anymore.
Seven days passed–no word from my father or Lucas.
Yet Clarissa’s updates of their “happy family of four” kept flooding the feed.
Only then did I realize–they had gone on a vacation to the Auralis Isles.
Ms. Hayes contacted me urgently:
“The Whitmore Corporation’s assets are rapidly being transferred to Grace.
“In three days, your father will sell off the proxy shares at the board meeting. If you attend, you can recover everything.”
Clutching my mother’s keepsake, I replied with a single word: “Okay.”
That evening, Clarissa posted her marriage certificate. The internet exploded.

“So Claire was the homewrecker all along!”
“She bullied others her whole life, and now her own child’s a bastard–karma!”
But within 3 minutes, the post vanished without a trace.
Lucas’s call came through next.
I had no interest in answering.
Bleeding for seven days with frozen accounts, I hid in a shabby hospital.
Someone recognized me.
“You’re the one who stole her sister’s husband, right?”
“That’s her! The one who forced a marriage because of her background. But turns out, he loved
the sister!”
“Look at her belly… that child is illegitimate.”
Cramping pains twisted my abdomen. My voice trembled, “Please… call a doctor…”
“Don’t pretend to be pitiful!” a pregnant woman shoved me. “Women like you are disgusting!”
Someone yanked my hair.
“Bastards like yours shouldn’t be born!”
“I’m not a homewrecker!” I backed up, shielding my belly. “Touch me again, and I’ll make you
disappear from Silvergate!”
Lucas’s call came through for the seventh time–no one answered.
Then-
Ice–cold water crashed over me, dragging me back to the cruel present.
“Still dreaming of being a princess? The mother and daughter married into wealth–what are
you?”
I didn’t even have time to wipe it off, just kept dialing Lucas.
Finally, the call connected-
But the voice on the other end was Clarissa’s, sweet and playful:
“You’ve been ignoring Claire so long, aren’t you afraid she’ll run away?”

Lucas chuckled with the arrogance of a man too sure of his hold on me:
“I’ve pampered her for years. She can’t live without me. We’ve never been apart this long. Once I go back, she’ll melt like always. I even bought her an island in the Auralis Isles–she loves diving…”
Then his tone turned serious:
“Once your baby’s born, we’ll go to City Hall immediately-”
The call was suddenly cut off.
The furious crowd raised a chair to strike me-
“Homewrecker! Let’s end her bastard!”
Just when I was about to give up-
Bang!
A chair was stopped midair–shattered by a sharply–defined hand.
Behind him, a row of men in black shouted authoritatively:
“How dare you! Who dares call Mr. Cross’s child a bastard?!”
Gasps erupted.
“Holy–That’s Damien Cross of Baymore?!”
