She didn’t expose his lies—just closed her eyes and said softly, “I’m tired. I want to rest.”
Adrian looked at her calm, distant face, Guilt deepened in his eyes.
He pulled the blanket up over her shoulders and murmured, “Alright. Get some sleep. I’ll stay here with you.”
In the days that followed, Adrian cleared most of his schedule to stay at the hospital and care for
Sienna.
He fed her water and medicine, peeled fruit for her, even helped her wash up.
His attention to detail was just as it used to be.
Before, that would’ve melted her in an instant. But now, every time he leaned in close, all Sienna could think about was his choice on the balcony. And her heart twisted like a blade inside her
chest.
Worse yet, he never stayed long.
The phone would always ring on cue, and Celeste’s soft, anxious voice would come through—Lila was scared and crying every night, the baby had a fever, she couldn’t manage alone…
So Adrian had to run back and forth between the hospital and the Prescott Penthouse.
Watching him leave time and again for another woman and her children, Sienna felt like there was a hole in her chest, one that only grew larger with each passing day, letting in nothing but cold
wind.
Finally, one day, when the phone rang again and Adrian’s expression darkened as he took the call,
Sienna spoke first.
Her voice was worn out, heavy with sorrow. “Adrian, go take care of them. You don’t need to keep coming back and forth. I don’t… need you anymore.”
If this had been before, even the smallest hint of her being upset would’ve made him anxious. He
would’ve dropped everything to coax her, never leaving her side.
But this time, he only paused for a moment, then gave her a brief hug.
His words were light and powerless. “Don’t overthink it. I’ll be back soon.”
And then, he actually turned and left.

Watching his retreating back, Sienna suddenly laughed. But the more she laughed, the more tears. came, soaking the pillow beneath her head.
A few days later, Sienna could walk again.
She went to pick up her medication herself.
On the way back, she passed the stairwell, and heard Adrian speaking in a low voice on the phone.
The person on the other end was clearly one of his close friends.
His voice wasn’t quiet at all, laced with teasing and disbelief.
“Adrian, weren’t you the one who couldn’t stand that whiny little brat? Said she looked too much like Celeste and annoyed the hell out of you.
Now look at you–letting Sienna fall like that over a kid you used to hate?”
Adrian was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, “No matter how annoying she is, she’s still mine.”
“My family pushed me to have kids with Celeste. At first, I hated it…but after four years, raising her–feelings develop.”
“Blood is blood. I couldn’t just watch my own kid fall.”
“Damn, seriously? That little boy of Celeste’s–is he the next heir now? The whole Prescott fortune, going to him?”
“And what about Celeste? You’ve slept with her more times than you can count, she even, gave you a son and a daughter–you owe her at least a proper title, don’t you?”
There was a long silence.
So long that Sienna felt like her heart had stopped beating.
Then, she heard Adrian’s voice, low, steady, and crystal clear. “…Yeah. I’ll marry her.”
“Holy shit! I was right?!” the friend exclaimed. “But what about Sienna? I thought you were obsessed with her. You used to act like you’d die without her.”
“I love her.” Adrian said quietly.
“I probably won’t love anyone like that again in my life.”
“But…” his voice dropped lower. “Her background is too low. An alcoholic father. A dying mother. Grew up in the slums…”

“Someone like that could never marry into the Prescott family.”
“She’ll just… stay with me like she does now. I’ll take care of her. Spoil her. Give her the best of everything.”
“But she’ll always be-”
“A mistress I kept in the dark. One I can’t show the world.”
