Sienna’s POV
Noah's words made me burst into sheer happiness. With ease, Noah could fill the air between us and make our home feel like a new place in heaven.
For a moment, Mrs. Wilson looked at me like I was saying something.
I could see her gratitude through her gentle smile. The fact that this small family finally found themselves at the same dining table after years of being apart is a wonderful sight to behold.
We sat together. At the far end of the table, there was Liam, Noah and myself facing Mrs. Wilson. At first, it felt like a complete family, something that had never happened to me for ages.
As she poured soup into my bowl, Mrs. Wilson said, "Sienna, I heard you're back to writing. What happened?”
"I looked at her with some astonishment, and she said yes," I could. “I've just completed a manuscript for securing prestigious writing competitions.”
"I'm glad to hear that," she exclaimed softly. "Liam, I heard you."
Your writing abilities have always been impressive. Was it your practice to compose brief verses for Noah?
My expression softened, a sense of humiliation at the memory. "Yes, I still write small things like that."
She gently but surely encouraged, "Written words from the heart will always touch and feel other people."
I looked at her, moved. Liam's mother spoke to me with such warmth, which I never anticipated would happen.
Noah disrupted the conversation by joking about school. "Grandma, I learned a new song today! Can I have the chance to sing it for you?”
Mrs. Wilson was elated and said, "Yes, my friend!"
Noah started singing with his small and sweet voice. I couldn't help but bewilder as Liam and his mother looked on with a proud smile.
As the song came to a close, there was enthusiastic applause from everyone in the room.
Mrs. Wilson praised Noah's talent for singing, likening it to that of his father in childhood.
Liam chuckled. "I was considerably more introverted during that period."
“Noah's not shy, Daddy!” Noah responded with a cheeky "I'm brave!"
We all laughed together. With a beaming smile, Noah looked up at him in affectionate form, and Mrs. Wilson gazed at them with calm eyes.
There was an emotional component to that night, and it felt like I was restoring something that had been damaged. Heavy old wounds gradually healed amidst the aroma of food and the sound of family laughter.
Noah was met with a beaming smile from Mrs. Wilson, who said, "You are incredibly brave. What kind of courage did this boy have? It's likely that you have a strong sense of adventure in your father.”
Noah blinked innocently. “Adventurous? Can you imagine being someone who likes treasure hunting, Grandma?”
She laughed. "I bet it might be true. Your dad used to love going through the little forest behind this house."
He would come back home with odd stones, enormous leaves, or even caterpillars.
Noah burst out laughing. “Caterpillars? Really, Grandma?"
"Don't tell that story, Mom," Liam said while covering his face in an embarrassed expression.
Yet, Mrs. Wilson was already giggle-ed. "Oh, I remember that very well! The caterpillar jumping onto your hand caused you to rush off and scream.”
Liam's face made me laugh uncontrollably. "It seems like he has been struggling with his own challenges since a young age."
“Daddy is brave,” Noah said excitedly of his father. "Daddy has never been scared of ghosts, but he is not scared off?"
Liam raised an eyebrow and smiled erratically. "The fate of Noah is determined by the ghost. Daddy may want to be friends with it if it's fond of soccer.”
Noah's laughter was so loud that he nearly spilled his drink. Mrs. Wilson softly patted his hair and looked at Liam and me with tender eyes. It was heartwarming.
“I'm so happy to see all of you like this," she said softly. "This house hasn’t felt this full for a while."
My eyes closed, the warmth lingering in my chest. "Thank you, Ma'am. We are pleased to be present here as well.”
While there was a hint of emotion in her voice, Mrs. Wilson smiled broadly. "Sienna, we must admit that your relationship has been challenging."
The two of you now share a happy childhood together, and she looked at her closely. "You seem to have found each other again," she said.
