Sienna's POV
I was shocked, hearing Mrs. Wilson's words were so true and full of feeling that they made the whole room silent.
Liam, who had been quiet all this while finally spoke his voice soft but firm. “It’s my fault too, Mom. I know I wasn’t the sort of husband she deserved back then. I was too occupied ignoring truth, ignoring feelings I should’ve let myself to have.”
I looked at him. His stare was deep, so true that it made my breath stop.
"But now," he went on, "I don’t want to make the same error again. I want to fix things right not from guilt but because I really wish to."
He gazed right at me, and his tone got gentler. “I wish to understand how to care for you, Sienna. Truly. Not by push, not with the load of the past. I want us to make something nicer than what we had at home, together with Noah, and with all the things we never had time to feel.”
I stopped. His words cut through the walls I had made for a long time to keep myself safe. My heart, once cold for many years, now beats in a new way, warm and full of weak hope.
For a bit, quiet covered the room. Only the ticking of the clock and soft noise of rain outside could be heard. I searched his eyes looking for any sign of doubt but all I found was truth - something that had once been gone between us .
Mrs. Wilson stared at us, her grin soft, her eyes shining. “I’ve waited a long while for this day,” she said gently. “Not to see you great, but to see you reaching for one another again. Sometimes love that lasts comes from hurts.”
I bent down my head, holding my shaking hands close. Her words flowed softly into my heart, making a blend of pain and ease. For such a long time, I was scared, scared to try again, scared of letdown, scared of losing hold of me. But tonight something seemed different
Liam put his hand out over the table, almost touching mine. He didn’t push it, he just waited.
I stared at his hand for a while before slowly putting mine on it. The feeling was easy, but it made me hold my breath.
Liam smiled a little. “Thanks,” he said softly. “I know this isn’t easy for you.”
I gulped down, my talk shaking. “I don’t know yet, Liam, if I'm fully set. But I wish to try. I don’t want to stay in the past any more.”
“And I won’t let you go by yourself again,” he said soft but strong, his voice so real that I felt really noticed.
Mrs. Wilson grinned with joy, gazing at us like she could at last inhale after keeping her breath for ages. “You see,” she s͏aid gently, “I used to wish that one day you both would be together again without fault, without hard feelings. I believe tonight is the reply to that wish”
Noah, who was quietly playing with a bit of bread, suddenly looked up. “Daddy, Mommy, are you friends again?”
