From Best Friend To Fiancé (Savannah and Roman) novel Chapter 34

**TITLE: Dreams Folding Into Broken Time**
**Chapter 34**

“We all can’t be stealing our sister’s man, can we?” Chloe’s voice dripped with sarcasm, her words hanging in the air like a thick fog.

Chloe’s fingers curled around her glass, the cool surface almost slipping from her grip as she tightened her hold.

“Please, do go on,” Dean slurred slightly, lifting his drink in a clumsy toast before gulping it down.

I couldn’t help but notice the way the dark liquid from his glass trickled down his thighs, a vivid reminder of his inebriated state.

He looked thoroughly intoxicated, his eyes glazed and unfocused, a stark contrast to the sharp wit he usually wielded.

Savannah cleared her throat, her demeanor shifting as she prepared to share her tale. She began with a hint of reluctance, as if the memory was still fresh and raw.

“I was barely two weeks into my new job, already feeling the weight of exhaustion pressing down on me, questioning every life choice that had led me into the unforgiving realm of corporate finance. I stumbled into a staff meeting, late as usual, and snatched the only empty chair available, which just so happened to be right beside Roman Blackwood.

We had yet to be introduced, but he was already a legend in the office—the impeccably dressed enigma who exuded an air of calm confidence, the man everyone whispered about, claiming he possessed a frighteningly high IQ and the emotional depth of a stone.

And there I was, a bundle of nerves, inadvertently grabbing his pen and chewing on the cap like a nervous child during a presentation.

When Roman leaned in, his voice low and teasing, whispering, ‘That pen costs more than your rent,’ I shot back, ‘Well, it now tastes like fear and shame.’

After the meeting concluded, I felt compelled to reach out. I sent him an apology cupcake adorned with a sticky note that read, ‘I promise not to gnaw on any of your other assets. Probably.’

To my surprise, he appeared at my desk two hours later, a new pen in hand, claiming it was chew-proof.

And just like that, our connection blossomed into something beautiful—chaos and calm intertwined. We transitioned from being best friends to falling deeply in love with one another.

I had a knack for making him laugh, while he had this incredible ability to ground me. He taught me the intricacies of balancing a portfolio, and in turn, I showed him how to craft the perfect professional insult via email.” She finished her story with a satisfied smile, a glimmer of nostalgia in her eyes.

Their expressions mirrored a mix of awe and disbelief.

“It’s a riveting tale, I must admit,” Dean slurred, his words slightly sloshing together, revealing just how far gone he was in his drunken state.

Chloe tilted her head, a sly smile creeping onto her lips. “How fortunate you are, Sav. You seem to have a knack for attracting men who are leagues above you. I must say, I’m quite impressed.”
