From Best Friend To Fiancé (Savannah and Roman) novel Chapter 95

**TITLE: Dreams Folding Into Broken Time**

**Chapter 61: It’s Over**

Jealousy coursed through me like a poison. No, it was more than that. I was furious. No, envious, perhaps?

The truth was, I couldn’t quite grasp the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me. My chest felt like a tightly wound knot, each thread tugged by a different feeling—anger, betrayal, and a seething resentment that clawed at me from all sides.

How was it that Chloe could betray her fiancé, yet still be treated with such gentleness, like she was made of fragile glass? The man didn’t even seem angry with her. Not really angry, anyway. Instead, he was here, lamenting about how difficult it was for him to share his diagnosis with her.

What the actual fuck was happening?

The silence that enveloped us was suffocating, a weight pressing down that refused to lift. The only sounds were the gentle lapping of water against the shore and the occasional call of a bird overhead, as if the world around us was muted, oblivious to the storm brewing between us.

Finally, he let out a long, shaky breath, his voice rough and strained when he finally spoke.

“It’s cruel, Sav. That you and I carry this truth together, while she, of all people, gets to stay in the dark.”

My teeth clenched together in frustration. I was tempted, so very tempted, to remind him just how much of a bitch Chloe truly was. How pathetic he was for tolerating her infidelity, for still holding her hand after she had gotten pregnant by another man.

But maybe this was Karma’s way of teaching him a lesson. Oh, how poetic that would be.

“Then open up to her,” I shot back, my voice dry and laced with malice. “Tell her the truth. Let’s see if it’s the ultimate test of love.”

My tone dripped with sarcasm, but he seemed oblivious, staring out at the rippling water, his shoulders tense with unspoken burdens.

“It’s not that easy,” he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

I scoffed loudly, unable to contain my disbelief. “Not that easy? Are you forgetting she cheated on you?”

His jaw tightened, a muscle twitching in response, but he remained silent.

I leaned in closer, my voice a low hiss as I twisted the knife deeper. “Is the wedding still going to happen tomorrow?”

He didn’t respond, not even a glance in my direction.

A heat bubbled in my chest, rising to my throat until it felt like fire. I stood up abruptly, brushing dried leaves off my backside with jerky movements. “I’m leaving. I’ll let them know where to pick you up.”

As I turned to walk away, his voice sliced through the air like a knife.

“I cheated on her too.”

The leaves crunched beneath my heel as I froze mid-step. Slowly, I turned back to face him.

His posture was slumped, defeated, like a man who had been stripped bare of all pretenses. “I’m not innocent either. I propositioned you. Fuck, Sav… What do you expect me to do? Leave her? She sent me a text threatening to kill herself tomorrow.” His hands tangled in his hair, tugging at it as if he wanted to rip it out in frustration.

What a fucking narcissist.

My lip curled in disdain. “We both know she’s being dramatic. She’s not actually going to kill herself; she’s a master at manipulation.”

“You can’t be sure.” His head snapped up, eyes wide and desperate. “Chloe’s really fragile.”

“Fragile my ass.” The words escaped my lips before I could rein them in. “She gets away with everything, doesn’t she?”

“You don’t understand,” he shot back, his voice rising.

“Oh, I understand perfectly.” My tone sharpened, cutting through the tension like a knife. “You’re a coward. Too weak to stand up to a woman who—” I paused, my chest heaving with the weight of my words. They sat heavy on my tongue, both poisonous and sweet. “—who got pregnant by her ex.”

The world around us seemed to still.

Even the wind held its breath. The water, the birds, even my own breath dared not move in the charged atmosphere.

His head jerked toward me, shock evident in his expression. “What did you just say?” His voice was low, dangerous, a storm brewing beneath the surface.
