Fabio gave Patricia a sharp warning, telling her not to cause trouble for Athena. The argument quickly exploded in the living room.
Patricia glared at Fabio, her face twisted with anger, almost losing control.
But Fabio stayed incredibly calm. When she finally stopped yelling, he said flatly, “If you can’t accept any of this, then maybe we should just get divorced.”
He’d had enough over the years.
Their kids were all grown now, and he didn’t see the point in fighting over the trivial things again and again.
Athena’s existence was a fact. No matter how hysterical Patricia got, it wouldn’t change anything. Deep down, he felt guilty toward Athena. Fabio wanted to make things right.
“What did you just say?” Patricia’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re serious? You’d really divorce me because of that woman?”
They had argued for decades, but Fabio had never once mentioned divorce.
Today, he was actually considering this.
Maya stood by the doorway, frowning deeply. Everything around her suddenly felt like it was falling apart.
Did that mean her dad had another woman?
She had always believed her parents were happy. Sure, their marriage started as a marriage arrangement. After nearly thirty years and three children, she thought they’d grown to love each other.
Maybe she’d been wrong all along.

“You’re going to do this to me?” Patricia shouted, her voice breaking. “I tolerated you getting mixed up with the bitch from the Storms, but now you-”
“SHUT UP!” Fabio snapped, his face darkening. “There’s nothing going on between me and Beverly!”
Maya’s face went pale. Her knees nearly gave out as the truth hit her like a punch to the chest.
Beverly was Zaden’s mother.

The thought hit Maya like a shock. She suddenly remembered that strange look on Beverly’s face when she found out her father was Fabio–a kind of quiet sadness, as if she was hiding something deep inside.
So there really was a story behind it.
“You just couldn’t keep your pants on!” Patricia snapped, her voice sharp and furious. “That’s how you ended up with an illegitimate daughter! I swear, even if I die, that woman’s child will never set foot in our family or take anything that belongs to Maya!”
Fabio clenched his fists tightly at those harsh words.
He had made mistakes. He had lied to both women. But his feelings were real. He had truly loved Athena’s mother. Hearing Patricia insult her like that filled him with anger.
“Enough!” he said coldly. “It’ll be as I said before.”
Patricia’s face twisted. “No! I won’t agree to a divorce!” She rushed forward, grabbing his arm desperately. “I won’t let you leave me!”
Before the argument could go further, Maya stepped in. She couldn’t take it anymore.
“Dad, Mom–what’s going on here?”
Fabio and Patricia had been arguing so fiercely that both their faces had turned red. But the moment they saw Maya standing there, they froze. The shouting stopped instantly.
They both knew Maya didn’t know the truth, and they had no intention of letting her find out. For now, all they could do was call a truce.
Maya slowly walked into the room, her expression tense. She looked at her mother’s tearful eyes and asked in a low, steady voice, “Dad, I just heard you say you want a divorce. Why? Did Mom do something wrong?”

“Maya … ” Fabio began, but the words stuck in his throat. He didn’t know how to explain.
“I heard everything,” Maya continued firmly. “Dad, do you have another woman outside this family? Are you cheating on Mom?” Her gaze was sharp and filled with disappointment. “You and Mom have been together for so many years. How can you just throw that away so easily?”
Then she added, her voice trembling with anger, “Preston’s still overseas. Do you really want him to come home and find out about this?”
Fabio and Patricia had three children. Maya was the youngest, with Kit above her in age, and the eldest son, Preston Rice, living abroad to manage a branch of the family’s company.
