Kate didn’t try to talk her out of it. Instead, she said gently, “Since you’ve already made up your mind, I won’t say more. I just want you to know, no matter what happens, I’ll always have your

back.”

Athena’s heart softened. Kate had always treated her like, well, like a parent would do to their child.

Her eyes stung a little as she replied, “I’ll do my best. I won’t let

you down, Professor.”

Kate thought about this and asked, “But your hand… it’s still not fully recovered, right? What’s your plan?”

Athena smiled faintly. “Actually, I should thank you. If you hadn’t pushed me to study holistic medicine, I wouldn’t have found another way forward. I’ve been researching needle therapy for years. It works wonders for nerve recovery. I even tried it on myself.”

When Athena realized it was working, she quietly kept up her treatment.

She didn’t tell anyone, not even after her last injury.

It felt like her hand was as good as new. With constant therapy, her fingers were gradually becoming more flexible again.

Because of this, she wasn’t worried at all about what Maya had said earlier.

Kate was stunned for a second, then broke into a grin. “Really? That’s incredible! Then I don’t need to worry about you anymore. Let’s make Barbara eat her words this time–she’s been mocking my student for far too long.”

Athena chuckled softly. That was one of her goals, too.

Athena had heard from Jaylee that Barbara often used her as a way to mock Kate. Every time that happened, Kate couldn’t fight back and could only swallow her anger.

So now, Athena wanted to stand up for Kate a little and give her a small win.

They talked for a while longer before Kate finally left in high spirits. Jaylee, however, was stunned. She hadn’t expected Athena to openly go against Maya. All the thoughts she had earlier—that Athena and Zaden might not have anything going on—vanished in an instant.

That evening, Athena was just about to head to the hospital cafeteria when her phone suddenly

rang.

She pulled it out and saw Zaden’s name on the screen.

Athena hesitated for a moment before answering.

Zaden’s voice came through the line. “Have you eaten yet?”

“Not yet,” she said. “I was just about to. What’s up?”

“Let’s have dinner together.”

Athena pressed her lips together. Honestly, she didn’t really want to see him. Not after clashing with Maya earlier today.

She was still upset and not sure if Zaden had handled things properly with Maya.

In short, she didn’t feel like seeing him at all.

When she didn’t answer, Zaden’s voice softened. “Can we have dinner together? I’m already at the hospital. Should I come find you?”

Athena’s eyes widened in shock.

She knew that her deal with Maya had already become the talk of the hospital. If Zaden showed up now, she’d definitely be tomorrow’s hot gossip.

“Don’t come here,” she said quickly. “It’s not convenient for me right now.” She worried Zaden would ignore her warning and show up anyway. “Just tell me where you want to have dinner. I’ll come to you.”

Zaden could tell Athena didn’t want him showing up at the hospital.

So, he simply gave her an address instead.

Athena agreed and hung up. She sighed helplessly, then got ready to head out.

When Jaylee saw her leaving, she quickly asked, “Dr. Hall, are you going to the cafeteria? Want me to come with you?”
