From Mob Princess to Mugshot Photographer novel Chapter 109

**Chapter 6**

Outside the County Clerk’s Office, Jake stood rooted to the spot, his fingers tightly clutching the divorce papers that felt as heavy as lead in his hands. His gaze was fixated on the screen of his phone, where a notification glared back at him, marked with a bright red exclamation point that felt like a branding iron on his heart.

He read the message over and over: *Message sent but rejected by recipient.* A metallic taste of bitterness rose in his throat, a sickening reminder of how things had spiraled out of control.

“Jake!”

The sharp sound of Riley’s voice cut through his thoughts like a knife. He turned to see her strutting toward him in four-inch heels, her perfectly crafted makeup giving her a facade of confidence that was as fragile as glass. But the smile on her face twisted into something grotesque, a sickly sweet mockery that made his skin crawl.

“She’s already gone. You really think that little slut is coming back to beg for you?”

The glass doors of the office reflected Jake’s bloodshot eyes, the weariness etched into his features. As Riley’s manicured fingers brushed against his sleeve, he felt an overwhelming surge of anger and violently shook her off, as if her touch burned him.

The force of his movement sent Riley’s designer Chanel scarf fluttering to the ground, and she stumbled against a marble pillar, her eyes wide with disbelief. His voice trembled with barely contained rage as he spat out, “Are you done with your act yet, you psycho bitch?”

“What did you say?”

Riley’s eyes widened in shock, disbelief washing over her features.

“Twenty-seven times.”
