Chapter 7
Silas showed up at our table.
He pulled out a chair and sat down uninvited, then shoved aside the bowl of seafood chowder Liam had just poured me.
“Playing prince charming now? What’s your game? Sloane hates seafood as much as I do.”
Liam looked confused, then turned to me.
“Wait, you do?”
“My bad, Sloane. Thought you still liked it from back in high school.”
High school.
Silas went rigid the second he heard that.
We didn’t meet until college.
High school me? That was someone he’d never known.
I shook my head and pulled the bowl back.
“He’s wrong. I love seafood chowder.”
Truth was, Silas had a seafood allergy. Couldn’t handle the smell either.
So after we got together, I just stopped eating it.
His face went even darker at my words.
Once I finished, he tried again.
“So what’s the plan this morning? Need help getting tickets? I know people here-”
I wiped my mouth.
“We’re covered. Liam already sorted it.”
I looked over at Liam.
“Ready to go?”
“Yeah, let’s head out.”
Silas looked genuinely rattled. Like it was finally hitting him that I meant what I said.

Chapter 7
“Wait–let me come with you. I can translate if you need-”
I grabbed my bag.
“Liam speaks French. We’re good. You should check on Wren.”
Silas just sat there, completely at a loss.
Guess he hadn’t expected me to actually walk away.
Seeing us get up to leave, Silas panicked.
“Wait–how are you getting there? I’ve got a rental. Let me drive you.”
I was losing patience.
“We’re good. Already booked a car last night.”
Silas caught the edge in my voice and finally backed off.
But couldn’t resist one last attempt.

“Right. So… since you don’t need me, I’ll just go hang out with Wren and some friends today?”
He watched me like a hawk.
Waiting for me to crack. Show some sign I cared.
Not happening.
I kept walking.
“Sure. Do whatever. You don’t answer to me.”
Silas went dead silent.
I exhaled.
Finally. I could actually enjoy Paris.
I thought Silas had finally backed off, but when I got back to the hotel that night-
Liam got a work call.
He was still on the phone, so he told me to head up without him.
The second I stepped into the lobby, Silas was there.

Chapter 7
Must’ve been camping out on that couch for hours.
“Sloane, you’re pissed at me, right?”
I had no idea what he was getting at.
“About what?”
“You blocked me.”
He was staring at me like he expected something.
I almost laughed.
“Wait–you think I blocked you because you spent all day with Wren?”
He nodded.
Had he actually lost it?!
“Silas. I blocked you because you blew up my phone last night. It was annoying.
“We’re broken up. Whatever you do with Wren isn’t my problem anymore. I’m not chasing you, and I’m not getting in your
way.
“So please–just leave me alone and let me enjoy my trip. Can you do that?”
“No Sloane! You don’t mean that. You’re just upset-”
Wren’s call saved me from hearing the rest.
Silas hesitated, staring at his screen.
His thumb hovered over the answer button, then froze.
Perfect timing.
I hit accept for him.
Wren’s voice came through instantly, all sweetness and distress.
