From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 185

Elliot moved so fast he was suddenly standing right in front of me, blocking Remy with his whole body. He was like a wall—solid, unmovable—no matter how hard Remy tried, there was no way he was getting past him.

“Mr. Swanson, please step aside. This is between Avery and me. It’s a private matter between husband and wife. Outsiders shouldn’t butt in.”

“Mr. Thompson, relax. Ms. Greenwood is my employee and she’s here on business. As her boss, it’s my job to make sure she’s safe and not bothered by random people with no business here.”

Remy’s face was turning all sorts of colors, but with Elliot blocking him, there was nothing he could do. He just stood there, breathing hard, clearly pissed off.

Elliot looked back at me. “Go inside. Lock the door. If anyone knocks and bothers you again, just call the police.”

“Thank you, Mr. Swanson. Good night.”

I shut the door and double-locked it, shutting Remy out of my world for good.

Remy was still going at it outside. “Mr. Swanson, this is between me and my wife. Who are you to interfere?”

“I’m her boss. That’s reason enough.”

“Oh, really? Or do you have some other motive, Mr. Swanson?”

“And what if I do? Think you can stop me, Mr. Thompson?”

“You—! Mr. Swanson, you’re deliberately messing with your employee’s marriage. If word gets out, your reputation will be trashed. You’ll be a disgrace forever.”

“Ever heard the saying, ‘If I have to fall, let it be for something beautiful’? Reputation doesn’t bother me. Who’s going to do anything about it?”

Remy muttered something, but I didn’t catch it. All I knew was that he’d lost—completely.

No wonder Elliot’s the boss. The way he handled things was just... unbeatable. His words hit like a shot of espresso—sharp, bracing, and suddenly everything felt so much clearer.

It felt great.

After a shower, I slipped into the hotel’s bathrobe and then it hit me—I had a serious problem.

Just like that night I got drunk. No clothes.

I tightened my bathrobe, grabbed my phone, and tiptoed to the door. My heart was pounding as I checked the camera.

It wasn’t Remy. I let out a breath.

Outside was Elliot, and with him, a middle-aged woman in a hotel uniform, holding a huge shopping bag.

I looked at my phone and realized the message wasn’t from Remy at all. It was from Elliot. He’d told me he was sending something up and not to be scared, it was safe to open the door.

Who would have guessed that my usually icy boss could be this thoughtful? He’d sorted everything out, even bringing a woman along so I wouldn’t feel awkward.

Working for a boss like him—sure, he was a bit sharp sometimes, but honestly, I felt pretty lucky.

I called Elliot.

His voice was calm and steady. “Ms. Greenwood, I’ve stepped away. The hotel staff has your things. You can open the door now.”
