From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 31

“Remy!” Julia was sprawled on the floor, looking so fragile it was almost pitiful.

Remy’s face didn’t flicker, not even a little. His voice was cold. “I warned you. Don’t mess with Avery. She’s my wife. No matter what happens, no matter if she’s right or wrong, I’m always on her side. You did this to yourself. Now deal with it.”

Those words cut right through me, and for a second I thought I might cry.

Every woman wants that kind of loyalty—someone who’ll pick her, no questions asked.

And here I was, finally hearing it for myself… but only after I’d already decided to let him go.

So what was the point anymore?

I was done watching this mess. I grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door, but Remy was faster. He yanked it out of my hand so hard I almost lost my balance.

If this is love, I swear, it might just kill me.

“Remy, enough! I can’t breathe in this toxic house. Every extra second here feels like I’m suffocating. Please, just be human for once. I’m already covered in scars. What do you want, to see me dead before you’ll let me go?”

“No. You’re not leaving.” Remy’s voice was low and stubborn. “Whatever I owe you, I’ll pay it back a hundred times over. But you have to stay.” He dragged my suitcase away, making it clear he wasn’t giving me a choice.

Before I could answer, Cindy’s wailing cut me off.

“Mommy, please don’t go! I need you! This is your home too—you can’t leave!”

Everything spun out of control—again.

Julia really was a storm. Ever since she showed up, nothing was the same. All of us were falling apart.

Cindy wrapped herself around my leg, her tiny body shaking as she sobbed, begging me not to leave.

Remy wouldn’t let go of my wrist, his face dark, those eyes full of something wild and desperate.

She took a few steps, then turned, worried. “Mommy, you’ll come pick me up tonight, right? You’re not leaving?”

My eyes stung, my heart twisted up in knots. I forced myself to smile and waved. “Be good, listen to your teacher. I’ll be here tonight, I promise.”

I watched her tiny figure disappear inside, swallowed by the blur of other kids.

Then I turned to Remy’s car. He got out, walked over, and stood in front of me, looking down with that unreadable look.

We were only a foot apart, but it felt like a canyon had opened up between us.

“Cindy’s at school now. No more interruptions. Let’s find somewhere quiet to talk.”

Remy’s eyes were cold, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. His voice was flat. “Half a year from now, Julia will be gone. When she is, I won’t owe her anything. Avery, listen—when Julia takes her last breath, the very next second, I’m yours completely. Everything you’ve waited for—my body, my kids, my whole life—I’ll give it all to you. So forget about that kiss. Just be my Mrs. Thompson. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I swear I’ll never betray you.”
