But Raven ate super fast, like he hadn’t had a good meal in a long time.
After feeding him for two days, Caroline noticed that he actually looked thinner.
She had no choice but to call Niko for advice. To her surprise, she had been feeding Raven too little.

So this morning, after her walk, Caroline watched Raven bury its big head into the bowl, eating like there was no tomorrow. She thought to herself, Looks like I need to buy way more meat than I planned.

became super rare. Everyone would fight just to get a single slice of meat or a sausage!
After dealing with Jonathan today and arranging for the workers to start the renovations tomorrow, she took Raven to a slaughterhouse in the suburbs.
Caroline remembered a few big slaughterhouses out there–cows, pigs, and sheep.
She had a lot to deal with today.
During the day, she watched the workers at the site.
The doors and windows were easy to install, but the walls needed extra work. They had to cover them with anti–corrosion material, inside and outside. Even the top–floor roof had to be covered. She decided to wrap the whole floor with extra materials for protection.
She had already told the building management that morning. They didn’t ask for much, just said not to ruin the building’s look.
Around ten o’clock, Caroline got a call from Jonathan. He sounded angry.
I–I sent you
But before he finished his words, Caroline changed her tone, her voice shaking like she might cry. “Jonathan the wrong room number yesterday. I was so nervous that I turned off my phone. I was scared you’d say no. Then when you didn’t come, I thought you didn’t want to, so I went to sleep. I only saw your messages and Reese’s this morning.”
Jonathan went quiet.
Caroline was always strong and rarely showed her feelings. She almost never cried.
Her act of nearly breaking down completely surprised Jonathan.
He wanted to scold her, but now he didn’t know what to say.
Caroline smirked inside, knowing she had him cornered. Then she kept talking, “And I saw Reese’s message too. I guess I didn’t think carefully before. Since fate made me send the wrong room number, maybe it’s a sign Lshouldn’t rush this. I’ll wait until after the engagement.”
Jonathan started to panic.
No matter what he said, Caroline kept saying, “Reese told me not to,” and “It’s fate.” She refused to change her mind or talk about sleeping together again.
In the end, Jonathan had no choice but to hang up.
As soon as the call ended, Caroline–almost burst out laughing!
Haven tilted its head, watching Caroline curl up on the floor, trying not to laugh so hard her stomach hurt. He looked completely confused.
It took Caroline a while to calm down.
When she looked up, she met Raven’s big doggy face,

“Raven, you’ll never understand how happy I am right now.”
After hearing Caroline, Jonathan probably wouldn’t turn against Reese, but he would hold a grudge against her.
And Reese, wanting to make Jonathan feel better, would probably do everything for him tonight.
That would be the perfect time for Caroline to carry out her plan.
Plus, making those two scumbags miserable was just too satisfying for her.
Once she had calmed down, it was time to get back to work.
In the afternoon, Caroline went to the hardware store and picked out a security door.

The door was made of steel, super heavy, and regular tools couldn’t break it. She had the store make the lock stronger before she felt completely satisfied.
Now her house had two doors.
A big stainless steel door on the inside, and a stainless steel security door on the outside.
If someone knocked, she could open the inside door and talk through the security door without letting them in.

By seven in the evening, Caroline thought it was the right time to go to the Lowland Residence to pick up Patricia.
Patricia had originally planned to have Caroline stay home for dinner, but Caroline said she had discovered a really nice restaurant recently. Since she was taking Patricia out for a little drive, they might as well eat there together.
The Lowlands‘ bodyguards and Jonathan’s younger sister, Renee Lowland, wanted to come along, too. Caroline was fine with

She really did know a great place–a fusion restaurant. The head chef had been specially recruited and was said to come from a family of chefs with generations of experience.
The moment Patricia stepped into the restaurant, her face brightened with a little excitement.
