Seeing how enthusiastic Francis was, Caroline and the others did not refuse and agreed to go along.
They made one thing clear, though–the bear skin had to stay intact.
Just like that, the group made it safely into the village Tyler had mentioned.
Last time he came here, he was lucky he did not run into a single mutant animal.
This time, though, they had only just entered when four of them appeared in a row. Talk about bad timing.
As soon as they stepped in, the air was filled with a faint metallic scent of blood. They soon found what was left of a human body–the other half of the one that the mutant bear had been eating.
The intestines were ripped out, and half the head was missing–it was a horrific sight.
No one said a word. They just kept walking silently.
Scenes like this were nothing unusual in the apocalypse.
At the village entrance, Denton and Caroline let Silver and Jet out, telling them to scout around so no mutant creature would suddenly attack.
Despite being a total flirt, Jet got serious whenever it came to scouting. He and Silver split up, circling the village a few times from opposite sides.
Silver came back first, landing on Denton’s shoulder and nodding a few times.
“All clear,” Denton said to the group, “no mutants around.”
Jet soon returned too, flapping his wings twice to show that everything looked fine.
Some spots were buried under snow, but luckily, Francis had brought an excavator.
After digging a few areas, they managed to uncover several factory gates, making it easier to get in and out.
They kept moving deeper into the village, and when they finally looped back around, Francis . was practically grinning ear to ear.

It really was just like Tyler had said–every household was packed with stuff!

Sure, the food had long been gone, and you could tell mutant creatures had trashed the place pretty badly.
However, all those machines, lathes, and production lines were still perfectly intact.
Francis waved his hand excitedly. “Take everything! Haha, when Commander Ball sees this haul, he won’t yell at me again!”
Watching him, Caroline could not help rolling her eyes. Really? That’s your big dream? Not getting scolded?
Still, she could not deny she was thrilled when they were about to leave.
Just a moment ago, Caroline had split off from the main group, saying it would be faster to cover more ground separately.
She took Raven and Jet with her to explore a few nearby villages.
What she really wanted was to see if there was anything worth collecting.
Once she was far enough from everyone else, she ignored the small workshops and went straight toward the largest factory on the hill.
She remembered there was a famous processing plant in the area and wanted to check if this was the one.
From a distance, the factory looked massive–definitely not small–scale.
She hurried up the hill and went inside.
Luckily, it was built on high ground, so even after the avalanche, it had not been buried.
With Raven and Jet beside her, she stepped in and realized it was a huge beverage processing plant.
Inside, rows upon rows of drinks were neatly stored–all fresh–pressed juices that had never been shipped out.
There were so many flavors: 100% orange, peach, coconut, prune, pear–you name it.
There were also concentrated juices like cranberry, apple, and mixed fruit.
