Francis hurriedly said a brief goodbye to Caroline and went to check out Tyler’s “discovery.”
But when he got there, he realized that the so–called discovery was just an old sealing machine inside a processing factory–hardly worth the fuss.
“Lift it up, take them all!” Francis ordered the soldiers.
Then, intending to return to Caroline to talk about the beverage factory, he was suddenly stopped when Tyler grabbed his arm.
“Francis, I think there are a few more machines over there. Do you want to see if they should be moved too?”
Hearing that, Francis followed Tyler over.
Denton glanced at Tyler, then at Caroline. He rubbed his chin, raised an eyebrow, but did not say a word.
On his shoulder, Silver was curiously peeking around, her gaze drawn toward something.
Following her line of sight, they could see a chubby parrot standing on the head of a big black dog, flapping its wings, stretching its neck, and wiggling its tail–it was a pretty funny sight.
Caroline saw this and walked over, giving Jet two light pats on the head. What kind of act are you putting on now?
Jet drooped instantly, pitifully glancing at Silver, who had already turned her head away. Gosh, he was just copying other birds‘ courtship dances, yet his human thought he was embarrassing her!
Still, he cheered up quickly. Wow, what a good day! The pretty lady not only looked at me, but we even went on a mission together! Heh, there’s plenty of time ahead. I’ll definitely win her over someday!
If Caroline knew what Jet was thinking, she would definitely call him shameless–his imagination was way too much.
Once they had roughly finished investigating, Francis got a clear idea of the situation. Overjoyed, he told Caroline and the others that the army still needed time to continue the recovery work, and they could head back first.
He also assigned a young soldier to escort them back.

When getting into the vehicle, Denton volunteered to sit in the front passenger seat, leaving the back seats for Caroline and Tyler.
On the road, Caroline asked about the follow–up to the letter from Building B.
Tyler frowned slightly and said, “They want to claim Building B as their base and even want to trade with the army and us. I haven’t agreed to anything yet.”
According to Tyler, the people in Building B were also a mercenary group. Before the apocalypse, they had been rivals with the one he and Denton were part of. They were equally matched in strength.
Both groups had operated along the border, but for some reason, most of that rival group’s main members had shown up here in Hornvale.
Especially the man who arrived by helicopter that day–he was the leader of the Obsidian Fang. Tyler only recognized him and a few of his deputies.
The rest were all unfamiliar faces.
Still, it was clear that the woman leading Dyson’s group now had the Obsidian Fang leader’s
trust.
“Huh? Mr. Lowland, you know the people from Building B?”
The soldier driving suddenly spoke after hearing Tyler’s explanation.
Tyler gave a short grunt as his answer.
The soldier got excited, his hands trembling slightly on the wheel. “Oh man, those people from Building B are a nightmare to deal with! Colonel Sutton is practically losing his hair over them!”
At that, Caroline could not help picturing Francis’s thick hair and thought the soldier might be exaggerating.
“Right now, our shelter’s still based in Building A, but thanks to Colonel Sutton’s leadership, Commander Ball really values this place and wants to move more people in. The problem is, Building A’s full, and we still haven’t gotten Building B–it’s a tough nut to crack!”
As it turned out, when Building B’s people learned that Building A had been taken over by the army, they fortified their own base.
Even with the army calling out to them repeatedly, they acted like they could not hear.
