Chapter 276 Please Let Me Go
Chapter 276 Please Let Me Go
This made Vincent hold a grudge against Caroline.
That night, he took the stairs to avoid the security cameras and planned to use the tricks he had learned in prison to sneak into her home.
He had already checked things out beforehand and knew Caroline had a dog.
He brought sleeping pills and dog food mixed with rat poison.
His plan was to get rid of the dog first, then tie Caroline up and force her to transfer all her money to him.
He even bought a boat ticket with someone he knew from prison so he could flee the country that same night.
He thought if Caroline was dead, the police wouldn’t find the body for days. By then he would have moved the money and been gone.
But he didn’t expect to get caught.
In this life, he never admitted he was wrong.
He blamed the police who caught him and the victims‘ families who reported him.
When he killed the old woman, he told himself the old woman was weak.
So when Caroline put him back in prison, his hatred for her grew deep.
The police said he would face at least life in prison, maybe even the death penalty.
In his head he kept seeing Caroline’s look when she had grabbed him—that look of being above him.
He hated her so much he swore he’d make her pay, even if it was the last thing he did.
Then the apocalypse came.
Acid rain corroded the cell walls, and with a few hits the walls broke.
After the power went out, the prison fell into chaos, and he escaped.
Later, he ended up in a shelter.
Since many people didn’t have IDs, he just made up a fake name, and no one suspected a thing.
But fate had other plans–he ended up in the very same apartment building’s shelter.
When he found out that Caroline was still alive on the 66th floor and that the army was protecting her, keeping her separate from everyone else, he fell into a long depression.
Inside the shelter, he’d already been spreading rumors for a while, saying the people on the 66th floor

were hoarding supplies and acting above everyone else and that the army was biased–maybe even in bed with that woman.
He just wanted everyone to hate the 66th floor.
So when chaos finally broke out, they’d know who to blame.
And today, he finally saw his chance. Hidden in the crowd, he fanned the flames again and again, stirring people up so he could use the chaos to get back at Caroline.
But he never thought she’d recognize him.
“No wonder no one’s dared to mess with us for so long,” Caroline said with a cold smirk. “Looks like someone finally got brave today.”
She kicked out hard, sending the knife flying from Vincent’s hand.
“Before the apocalypse, you tried to break into my place! I called the cops, and you got arrested. I didn’t think you’d still hold a grudge–coming after me even now!”
She said it loud enough for everyone to hear.
She raised her voice on purpose–so everyone below could hear her. She wanted them to know this was personal, not some noble crusade.
That way, maybe they’d think twice before doing anything stupid–and it’d give Francis a way to handle things later without losing face.
Vincent slowly got up, backing away a few steps. He lowered himself, pretending to be pitiful. “I’m sorry! I wasn’t thinking straight!” he said, retreating farther until he dropped to his knees, banging his head on the floor.
“Please! Just this once–let me go!”
Then he turned and shouted toward the lower level, where Francis stood. “Sir! Please help me! I’ve changed, I swear! I’ll never bother them again–I’ll be a good man, I promise!”
Caroline frowned.
She knew she couldn’t let him stay.
But with so many people around, it wasn’t easy to act.
