Chapter 275 Vincent Sutton
Chapter 275 Vincent Sutton
The whole sequence happened in one smooth motion–so quick and clean that Jet, who had been standing on top of Raven’s head, was left completely stunned.
Jet’s eyes sparkled like stars, as if saying, “Wow, awesome!”
Of course, Silver didn’t even glance his way. Chest puffed out, perched proudly on Denton’s shoulder, the sharp–eyed bird looked every bit the professional on duty.
“Raven,” Caroline called, patting the dog’s broad shoulder.
Raven understood instantly. With a low growl, it bolted through the narrow gap in the door.
The crowd erupted in chaos.
“Colonel Sutton,” Caroline called down, “pull your men back half a floor and clear the area!”
Moments later, Francis’s voice echoed back as he barked the order to retreat.
Down below, Raven lunged through the panicked crowd, sank its teeth into the middle–aged man’s pant leg, and dragged him toward the 64th floor entrance.
Seeing this, people screamed and scrambled down the stairs, the mob breaking apart in seconds.
In the end, the only ones left on the floor were Raven and the man he’d pulled to the ground.
“They’re killing me! They set the dog on me!” The man shrieked, kicking wildly at Raven’s head.
But Raven wouldn’t let go, jaws locked tight on the man’s pants.
Then the man’s face twisted. With a flash of rage in his eyes, he yanked a dagger from his belt and swung it toward the dog.
But Raven was faster. He leapt back, teeth bared, muscles tensed, and eyes burning with warning.
And by sheer instinct or perfect timing, he positioned himself right in front of the staircase leading down. to the 63rd floor–completely blocking the man’s escape route.
The noisy crowd backed up in a panic, spilling down about half a floor.
Francis saw people scared and shouted for his soldiers to round up the troublemakers.
“Lock them up! Lock them all up!” he barked.
Steven, still holding his dead daughter, wouldn’t let it go. “What about me? Where’s my compensation?” he demanded.
Francis gave him a cold, creepy smile. “You’ll get compensation. But you’ll also be punished for stirring up trouble.”

Steven shivered.
Fear hit him all at once.
His daughter was gone, and sure, the army would give him some compensation–the shelter’s army wasn’t all bad.
But why had he gotten greedy? Why did he have to push for more, even trying to use his daughter’s death to get a share of the supplies from the 66th floor?
Everyone had been talking trash about the people up there lately, saying they were selfish and hoarding. So why did he have to be the fool who jumped out first? He thought if enough people joined in, the crowd would protect him.
But now look at him. He could tell he’d still get something for his loss–but not without paying a price. He knew it in his gut: this time, they’d make him pay, one way or another.
Caroline had opened the door by then and stared at the man on the ground with the knife.
She stared at him and let out a sharp snort. “So it’s you. Didn’t think you were still alive.”
This guy wasn’t just some random stranger–he was the contractor who used to remodel Caroline’s place before the world fell apart. She’d even called the cops on him back then, and he did time for it.
His name was Vincent Sutton–same last name as Francis–pushing 40 now.
A lifetime screw–up. Always cutting corners, stealing, getting into fights, and never working an honest day in his life.
Back home, he once got drunk, beat someone half to death, and ended up serving three years in prison.
Inside, he fell in with the worst kind of people–guys who’d been locked up for life.
He didn’t learn anything good from them, just how to pick locks and break into places like a pro. By the time he got out, he figured he’d “go big or go home.”
But out in the real world, he was a nobody. No education, no skills, no future. So he started breaking into old folks‘ houses, stealing whatever cash or booze he could find just to get by.
Then one night, he screwed up. A robbery went south, and an old woman got hurt.
She already had health issues, and after more than a week in the hospital, she didn’t make it.
Her family wasn’t rich–they ended up drowning in debt from her medical bills.
And what did Vincent even get out of it? A few bottles of cheap liquor and a couple thousand dollars in cash. He wrecked a family for pocket change.
