291 Scorpion Tails.
So, they had followed the same procedure as before. They carefully make their way to the area where the mutant cockroaches gathered. Just like last time, they used smoke to try to stun the insects before collecting them. But to their surprise, only a small
number of cockroaches were knocked out.
Then, they increased the dosage and let the smoke linger longer. Though the insects eventually passed out, things still went wrong.
When the people began loading the unconscious cockroaches into sacks to carry them back to the shelter, several of the cockroaches suddenly woke up halfway through the trip.
They tore through the bags and attacked the civilians.
Panic broke out immediately.
Thankfully, no one was killed, and the cockroaches weren’t strong enough to cause serious harm. Still, a few people ended up with cuts on their arms, which was enough to terrify everyone.
After hearing the soldier’s report, the room fell silent.
Francis’s mood dropped, and he collapsed back onto his bed with a heavy sigh. “No way! Even the cockroaches are bullying us now. What kind of twisted world is this? It’s only been a few days, and they’ve already developed resistance to smoke? This is getting ridiculous.”
The discussion that followed was grim.
The army didn’t have enough resources to handle this properly. They needed to conduct more experiments to determine how much smoke it would take to incapacitate these mutant cockroaches and how long it would need to be applied.
And if that failed, they had to find another method.
Caroline didn’t have a better solution either.
She remembered from her previous life that the army hadn’t used smoke to capture cockroaches at all.
They had built massive wire nets and used mechanical systems to drive the cockroaches into them.
But there was no equipment or materials for the setup. Mentioning it was pointless.
Later, in her past life, the army had even begun breeding mutant cockroaches like livestock for food.
But for now, that was out of the question.
After saying goodbye to Francis and telling him to rest, Caroline and the others headed back to the 66th floor.
On the way, Denton was the most miserable one.
He was whining all the way. “Hey, Tyler. You think that rat king hide is warm? Why don’t you lend me that little vest for a couple of days? I just wanna try it out.
“Before we head out on this mission, how about you make me one last meal, huh? You used to do that all the time–said it was my ‘last supper,‘ scared the hell out of me, told me to eat well ‘cause there might not be a next one.”

Hearing that, Tyler turned and lightly smacked the back of Denton’s head. “Don’t jinx it.”

Denton pouted under his breath, muttering that Tyler used to say it all the time–why was it suddenly considered bad luck now?
Caroline, watching from the side, couldn’t help laughing.
When they finally returned to the 66th floor, Denton called out to Caroline. “Hey, Caroline, coming over for dinner tonight? We can talk about how to deal with the rat king while we eat.”
Caroline agreed, and everyone went their separate ways for now.
Once she got home, Caroline entered her storage space.
Her random animal had been updated a few days ago.
Last time, it had been ants, which brought her a pile of medicinal plasters.
This time, it was a scorpion.
And what appeared with it was even stranger.
She got a pair of scorpion tails every day.
Each tail could be used three times and provided full–body anesthesia for two hours without any harm to the human body.
t could also be used for local anesthesia. She just had to inject the tail’s stinger into the targeted area and gently press the venom sac to release a small amount of anesthetic.
