Chapter 310 Mining the Smart Way

Caroline frowned, but didn’t answer. Running into Lisa here had completely thrown her off. This wasn’t part of the plan, and she had no intention of engaging in a long conversation. The more she said, the more she risked giving away.

As for the bet Lisa mentioned, she honestly couldn’t care less.

Tyler, meanwhile, stood tense beside her, eyes locked on Lisa, every inch of him on high alert. He could tell immediately–this woman wasn’t like Dyson and the others. She was going to be trouble. And … he’d never heard of Obsidian Fang having a second–in–command before.

Lisa spoke calmly, almost casually. “This whole coal field is buried under snow, and according to our intel, the government already mined a good portion of it years ago. A lot of the best veins were claimed back then. We just got here ourselves and haven’t even started digging yet. I don’t want to start a fight over it, so how about this–let’s make it a bet. Each of us picks a section of the field. You dig your half, we dig ours. No interference, no overlap. ”

She gestured with a smirk, all faux politeness. “You don’t trust us? That’s fair. You can pick first -just remember, if we’re betting, we both play by the rules.”

As she finished, Lisa lightly licked her lips, and her eyes lit up with an unmistakable spark.

Caroline recognized that look instantly, it was the gleam gamblers got when a high–stakes game was about to begin. This woman thrived on risk.

Caroline and Tyler exchanged a glance, then both nodded.

Lisa stepped slightly to the side and made a sweeping motion with her arm, as if to say, “Be my guest.”

Dyson, standing off to the side, rubbed his chubby chin and said, “Caroline, just so you know- word is, the army already hauled off most of the good stuff from this mine. If you pick the wrong side, you might end up walking away with a handful of coal at best.”

Lisa chimed in, eyes glinting. “Oh, and by the way, see that little pile of coal sticking out of the snow right there? We already checked, it’s hollow underneath. Total disappointment. Looks like the government dumped some scraps and never came back for them once the cold set in.”

In other words, the visible coal on the surface was useless as a reference point.

Caroline glanced at Tyler. “You feeling lucky today?”

Tyler frowned, clearly thinking it through. After a moment, he said, “50-50.”

“Then we’ll use that coal pile as the dividing line. We’ll take the right side. You take the left,” she said.

Lisa didn’t hesitate. “Deal. No take–backs. What’s chosen stays chosen.”

A few people from Building B stepped forward with a rope and laid it across the pile of exposed coal, neatly splitting it in half. Within minutes, the entire field had been divided–two teams, two zones. The agreement was clear–no interference.

Each team would stick to their side and mine separately.

Caroline glanced over at Tyler. They hadn’t expected to run into people from Building B out here, so the single vehicle they brought really wasn’t going to cut it. Originally, they’d planned for Tyler to load everything directly into his storage space, but now, using that ability openly in front of Building B was a no–go.

“No worries, I’ve got a workaround,” Tyler said.

He leaned in and whispered a few words in Caroline’s ear.

Caroline’s eyes widened. One eyebrow lifted. Well then, Lisa definitely didn’t see this coming. The way she set up the bet actually makes things even easier for Tyler.

On Building B’s side, they’d already brought in an excavator and started digging through the

snow.

Meanwhile, Caroline and Tyler took their time, strolling casually to the edge of their side. The snow was thick, layered, and packed tight, but that didn’t worry them. Caroline called for Raven.

Raven blinked his icy–blue eyes at her, alert and ready. Caroline pointed ahead and gave the command, “Raven, dig.”

And just like that, a ridiculously funny scene unfolded.

Raven perked up his rear end and started digging with his front paws furiously. Within seconds, he’d cleared a tunnel big enough for both Caroline and Tyler to crawl into.
