Chapter 321: Obsidian Fang Has Arrived
As Caroline mulled over the situation, she realized that once the deep freeze finally lifted and the world transformed into a vast, endless ocean, that longboat would become incredibly valuable. She found herself wondering whether it could outperform an inflatable rescue boat in speed and maneuverability. The curiosity gnawed at her—she was eager to test just how fast that “lightning-speed, multi-person” craft could really travel.
“A centipede has countless legs, and this longboat has a whole row of paddles—basically the same concept,” she murmured to herself, a small smile tugging at her lips.
Just as she began to think her hopes might be dashed, a gleaming new generator caught her eye in Farm One. It looked so pristine and polished that the glare almost made her squint. Bold letters stamped on top proclaimed, “Mini generator, as powerful as a full generator room. Super awesome.”
Strangely, the words vanished the instant she read them, as if the note was programmed to self-destruct after being seen.
Her storage space had granted her wish!
Better yet, the generator was equipped with multiple outlets, allowing her phone, tablet, and other devices to charge effortlessly. After tinkering with the machine for a while, Caroline glanced at the clock and realized it was already lunchtime.
Suddenly, a soldier’s voice crackled through her walkie-talkie. “Ms. Sinclair, Obsidian Fang is here to see you.”
She glanced over at Jet, who was still unconscious, and instructed Raven to keep a close watch on him. Then, she steeled herself for what was to come. Slipping two plasters into her pocket, she tucked a pistol into her waistband and strapped a short knife to her leg. It was time to face whatever awaited her.
Meanwhile, Tyler and Denton had checked in about an hour earlier. They were stationed near Building B, keeping a vigilant lookout as they awaited the arrival of Building B’s leader, who was supposed to escort people over to Building A. Their plan was to infiltrate Building B unnoticed.
By now, they should have already slipped inside.
Caroline hadn’t anticipated that the boss of Obsidian Fang would be around seventy years old. His hair was a striking white, sharp and bright against the dull winter backdrop. He wore a thick down jacket, and Caroline noticed extra layers wrapped around his legs—likely to soothe his aging joints in the cold.
Standing beside him were Lisa and several imposing bodyguards, each towering at least six feet three, clearly selected for their strength and presence.
Despite the freezing temperatures, none of them wore sunglasses. Their piercing eyes scanned Caroline intently, making her feel a bit on edge.
Dyson was nowhere to be seen.
The elderly man sat calmly, a gentle smile on his face that radiated quiet authority. He motioned toward a nearby stool. “Apologies, my legs aren’t what they used to be. I won’t be standing to greet you.”
Caroline nodded politely. Her first impression of Obsidian Fang’s leader was that he seemed courteous, approachable, and harmless. But beneath that exterior, she sensed a man who guarded his secrets carefully. He was far more complicated than he appeared.
Meanwhile, Tyler and Denton had quietly slipped into Building B.
