The water vanished in an instant, leaving behind a parched and blistering landscape.

Caroline couldn’t openly reveal what she had witnessed in her past life, so instead, she discreetly pulled out a few photographs to hint at the looming danger.

Tyler gave a knowing nod. “Yeah, something major is on the horizon. Otherwise, Obsidian Fang wouldn’t be flaunting all this gear so blatantly. I’ve been keeping tabs on them. Every worker and piece of equipment is concentrated above the 30th floor. The snow hasn’t reached that height yet, and the army has arranged for people to stay on the snow-covered floors below. Even though those lower levels are dark, they’re surprisingly warm.”

Caroline was impressed by his keen insight and nodded thoughtfully.

She added, “It’s obvious they’re zeroing in on the army now. From this point forward, we need to keep our distance. I’ll wrap up all our dealings with them over the next few days, then just sit back and collect the profits. Let’s avoid getting entangled in their affairs as much as possible.”

That evening, Francis appeared once again.

Caroline and her team laid their plans out in the open. They all agreed that the day after tomorrow, they would join forces with the army to seize control of Harry’s laboratories.

Naturally, Caroline had struck a deal with Francis—once the labs were under army control, she would receive a 10% share. He agreed without hesitation.

They also had two resource depots they promised to return to the army on behalf of Niko, which they intended to clear out today. Those depots were quite a distance away.

When they had made the deal with Niko, they had traded rights to everything above the 64th floor of a certain building. Caroline had the first choice of whatever they discovered; the remainder would go to the army.

Francis was visibly pleased, knowing he had secured more profits for Nathaniel.

Still, he sensed that Caroline’s team preferred to keep their distance from the government.

With a broad grin, Francis reached out to grab everyone’s hands.

This time, everyone quickly dodged, except for Raven, whose paw he caught. Raven looked distinctly annoyed.

Raven shot a glance at Caroline as if to say, “He might be your friend, but I’m not comfortable with him holding my paw.”

Francis didn’t seem to mind. Holding Raven’s paw firmly, he addressed the group. “No matter what happens, we’re still friends behind closed doors. I know I’ve been leaning on you all lately, but trust the country, trust the army, trust me! We won’t forget what you’ve done for us!”
