Chapter 343 The Storm Awakens

Caroline was stunned by Nelson’s long chain of analysis. She didn’t want to argue, so she brushed him off with a few words and left.

Nelson’s words kept lingering in her mind. He said that guy was into her.

That night, Caroline couldn’t sleep.

She didn’t even know why.

But the next morning, she stopped dwelling on this problem, because the temperature was rising again.

This time, overnight, it jumped to about 20°F and kept climbing.

The entire shelter was in chaos.

Gosh! It’s hot! I can’t live with this!

Put out the stove!

By noon, things got even crazier.

The temperature shot straight above freezing points.

From Caroline’s window, she could see the snow and ice melting fast.

The flood was coming.

She stood by the glass, lifting her binoculars.

The white snow on the streets below vanished right before her eyes.

The top layer of snow vanished.

Then the ice began to fade, chunk by chunk.

Finally, sunlight poured down on the watercovered world, turning it into a golden ocean.

All of this happened in barely an hour.

The temperature had climbed to around 45°F.

Caroline knew the deep freeze was over.

Chaos broke out inside the shelter.

Even though Francis had prepared ahead of time and moved most people from the frozen lower floors up to safety, they still hadn’t finished moving everything.

They had started working the night before when the air began to warm, but no one expected the heat to rise this fast.

Now, it was about 46°F.

The same thing was happening all over the world.

Across the planet, temperatures had jumped dozens of degrees overnight.

People who had survived months of bitter cold were now struggling to adjust.

Many felt dizzy, feverish, and short of breaththeir bodies confused by the sudden change.

Caswana had been lucky. Thanks to Francis’s intel that he pried out from Building B, they had been better prepared and knew what was coming.

But other countries weren’t so fortunate. Lowlying areas, cut off from early warnings, were hit hard. As the snow melted, whole neighborhoods disappeared under water.

The houses that had once been buried in snow were now completely drowned. No one was spared.

By around three in the afternoon, the temperature had finally stopped rising and settled at 50°F.

Caroline looked out the window. The world outside had turned into a vast ocean. Not a single patch of snow remained.

The deep freeze and that endless world of ice had all been a dream.

People everywhere believed the apocalypse was over, that earth was returning to normal.

But Caroline noticed something the others didn’t. Down below, the water was rippling.

The wind’s picking up,she murmured.

Without wasting a second, Caroline dashed out of her room and raced up to the rooftop.

Nelson was already there, sitting beside Handsy. The two seemed to be having some sort of strange conversation.

The moment Caroline stepped outside, the wind rushed against her face.

Handsy, being a tree, looked almost delighted by it; his leafy arms swayed wildly in the air as if dancing.

Hey! Get over here!Caroline shouted.

Nelson turned and saw her running toward them. He raised the cup in his hand with a grin.
