Chapter 318
Audrey’s POV
So it wasn’t a dream?
Takes Me,
My eyes adjusted to the dim light. I could make out Blake’s face behind his mask, his features unmistakable even in shadow.
I tried organizing my thoughts. How long had we been in this van? The drugs in my bloodstream were dissipating, and the unnatural heat that had consumed me earlier was fading.
At first, I’d assumed the kidnapper wanted ransom money from Adrian or Parker Group. But as his words filtered back, I realized his intentions were far more depraved.
My stomach turned. If Blake hadn’t controlled himself earlier when I was throwing myself at him…
I bit my lip and looked up. “Thank you for not taking advantage of me, but remember, I’m not Audrey Sinclair!”
“That Audrey,” I continued, “her life was so miserable.”
“The people she cared about didn’t care about her. The person she loved didn’t love her back. She couldn’t get anything she wanted and was killed by the man she loved.” The bitterness slipped through despite my efforts. “How tragic. I don’t want to be Audrey Sinclair.”
Blake pressed his lips into a tight line before speaking. “It’s not that I didn’t care about you, or that I didn’t love you.”
“I just… love you too much.”
I couldn’t help smiling slightly. “No need to explain to me. You should explain these things to the dead Audrey Sinclair.”
“I am Evelyn Knox,” I declared. “I was treasured by my parents. When I grew up, I met Adrian Knox. Our relationship was smooth sailing. After college, I started my business, married him, and had our daughter.”
I said these on purpose, as I knew I must have done something I used to do that made him so certain of my identity.
I laughed coldly. “Being someone like me, I can’t understand Audrey Sinclair – growing up at the bottom, standing faithfully by a man who didn’t love her. Her life was like a joke.”
Blake’s eyes suddenly turned cold. “Mrs. Knox, I don’t care whether you were Evelyn Knox or Audrey Sinclair. You have no right to mock my wife’s previous life. Her life wasn’t a joke!”
I tested my limbs, still weak from the drug. Realizing I couldn’t stand alone, I stopped struggling.
“It makes you uncomfortable to hear someone mock your ex-wife’s life?” I asked sharply. “If so, didn’t you ever think about her when you hurt her? If you’d considered her just a little, her life wouldn’t have been so miserable, would it?”
Blake’s expression was self-mocking. “I know, I wasn’t good before. I did many things that hurt you.”
“Audrey, you -*
I said I’m not Audrey Sinclair!” I cut him off. “Don’t act like this in front of me. It’s disgusting!”

Chapter 318
His attitude might be sincere now.
But so what?
The damage is done.
The former Audrey Sinclair is dead, killed by him! If not for having a twin sister, she’d be completely gone now!
How does he get to confess and apologize? He caused the death of someone who loved him – that’s a fact. Does remorse erase the past?
Blake just curved his lips bitterly and said nothing, hugging me intensely.
The van suddenly lurched to a stop, throwing us forward. Blake braced against the wall, keeping me secure. Cursing erupted from the driver’s seat, followed by footsteps.
The rear doors flew open, flooding the space with harsh light. The kidnapper appeared, scowling.
“What the hell are you doing?” he demanded. “I drugged you and locked you together for compromising photos! Not for you to talk about some dead ex-wife!”
“Wait, Dr. Clarke’s grandson isn’t married. Where’d an ex-wife come from?” His hand moved toward his pocket. “Who are you?”
Blake removed his mask, revealing his face. The kidnapper’s eyes widened.
“That doesn’t matter,” Blake replied evenly. “What’s your problem with Felix Thompson or Dr. Clarke?”

Chapter 319
Recognition dawned in the kidnapper’s eyes. “It’s you. What’s your relationship with Thompson? Friends? Rivals?”
*Consider us rivals in love.”
“So when I said I’d take you to this woman, you pretended to be Thompson?”
“Yes,” Blake confirmed. “You kidnapped her to take compromising photos with Felix Thompson, to humiliate him?”
The kidnapper smirked. “Of course.”
“But my purpose isn’t just humiliation,” he continued darkly. “I, Nathan Blackwood, am just an ordinary person. But since Dr. Clarke killed my girlfriend, I’ll make him watch as I destroy his grandson!”
Nathan’s face twisted with malice. “I won’t just take photos. I’ll cut off his manhood and post everything online! Clarke will watch his precious grandson dismembered piece by piece!”
He pointed at Blake. “But you ruined everything! All because of you!”
Nathan grabbed a fruit knife from the driver’s seat, its long blade glinting. “Since you ruined my plans, you’ll die instead!”
