Chapter 319
“He’s insane!” Blake said, as if reading my thoughts. “I ruined his plans, so he wants me. But if I leave you with him, what if he takes
his anger out on you?”
He ducked another swing. “I won’t let you go!”
I bit my lip, looking at Blake’s defined jawline. In the past, I’d gaze at him like this, wondering how such a perfect man existed.
After dying once, I thought I wouldn’t be enchanted by Blake Parker again.
But now, in his arms, looking at his jawline, I still can’t look away.
I took a deep breath and forced my voice cold. “Blake. Put me down.”
“I’m not Audrey Sinclair. You don’t need to risk yourself for me, you – ”
“I don’t give a shit!” Blake cut me off. “I lost her once already. I’m not letting that happen again.”
“As long as you have her face, I won’t let anything touch you.”
I glanced up at his profile as he maneuvered us away from another slash. Each time Nathan attacked, Blake shifted position – always
keeping his arm between the blade and me.
If he screwed up that timing even once, it would be his flesh getting sliced open, not mine.
The realization triggered a memory: Blake at his engagement party to Laurel, grabbing his sister’s knife mid-swing as she lunged at
Back then, his eyes had that same intense focus they did now.
When I’d asked why he’d done it, he brushed it off. Said he was protecting Thalia from herself, keeping her from doing something
stupid that would land her in jail.
