Chapter 401
Audrey’s POV
Adrian held his iPhone up, frowning as he scrolled through comments pouring in after William Parker’s livestream. We were in his car, just leaving Mayo
Clinic.
‘Is this eye contact really that emotional?” Adrian muttered, squinting at the screen. “I honestly don’t see it.”
I leaned over to look at what had caught his attention. The video showed Blake staring at me during the livestream – the moment that had apparently set social media on fire.
“Isn’t this just a normal glance?’ Adrian continued, genuinely confused. “Where exactly are people seeing all this emotion they’re talking about?”
He handed me his phone. “Here, check it out yourself.”
I took the device, my finger hovering over the screen. There was Blake, his eyes meeting mine for that brief moment everyone was dissecting. Once, I could read every flicker of emotion in those eyes. Now, I couldn’t see what the commenters were so excited about.
I stared at the frozen frame, something twisting inside me.
Maybe it’s because I don’t love him anymore.
The thought settled quietly as I handed the phone back to Adrian.
“Probably just internet drama,” I said with a shrug.
Adrian shook his head, still scrolling. “I think they’re just making up stories because they found out Rachel’s been using your identity. They’re upset and want to paint Blake as still being in love with you to make Rachel look even worse.”
I turned to look out the window, watching New York blur past. “You might be right.”
The car fell silent for a while before Adrian spoke again.
“Are you really going to wait until William Parker passes away and then distribute his assets to charity like he asked?”
I turned back to him, my decision already made. “Of course. William has been important to me. If this is his wish, I’ll do everything I can to help him fulfill
it.”
Adrian studied me for a moment, then hesitated before asking, “But if you do this publicly… your adoptive parents in Sydney will see it. They and the Parker family…”
I nodded, understanding his concern. “I’ll explain everything to them. I know they have history with the New York Parkers, and I’ll stay with them like my sister did before me. I’ll minimize contact with the New York branch.”
I paused, thinking of William. “But in my current situation… I can’t use my real identity to be with William or honor him. Helping distribute his assets to charity according to his wishes is the last thing I can do for him, so…”
The car suddenly screeched to a halt, throwing me forward. Adrian quickly reached out to steady me.
“What the hell?” Adrian snapped at the driver. “Is this how Henry Hartford trains his drivers?”
The driver’s voice came back shaky. “Sorry, Mr. Knox, but look ahead… there’s someone… if I hadn’t stopped quickly, I would have hit them…”
Adrian and I both looked through the windshield. There, standing in the middle of Fifth Avenue with her arms spread wide, was Rachel Hayes. Her face was set in determination as she blocked our car, seemingly indifferent to the angry honks from vehicles backing up behind us.
“What the fuck?” Adrian muttered under his breath.
Around us, drivers were rolling down their windows to shout at Rachel.

‘Lady, are you crazy or what?!”
“Some of us have places to be!”
‘Move your ass before I call the cops!”
“This isn’t a movie set, get out of the road!”
Rachel ignored them all, her eyes fixed on our car. She stood perfectly still, causing a growing traffic jam in one of Manhattan’s busiest streets.
After a moment, Adrian said coldly, “The police will take her away! What does that have to do with us?”
I watched Rachel standing there, and couldn’t help but remember how she used to lecture me about following traffic rules five years ago.
“Life isn’t a TV drama, Audrey. You need to follow traffic rules in the real world!”
Audrey, you need to be more composed, more calm.”
“This isn’t some country road back in your hometown. People could die doing things like this!”
How ironic that she was now the one causing traffic chaos. I unfastened my seatbelt and reached for the door handle.
Adrian grabbed my wrist. “Wait. You’re actually going to talk to her?”
“Do we have a choice? We can’t exactly drive away, can we?” I nodded toward the growing crowd surrounding our car. People were taking photos, pointing, and the traffic was completely blocked.
“What does she want?” Adrian growled.
‘She’s looking for me,” I explained. “That video of Blake looking at me during the livestream is all over social media, and people are analyzing his gaze like it means something… As Blake’s fiancée who’s getting married tomorrow, she’s obviously coming to confront me.”
“What good will confronting you do? Ask you not to seduce Blake? But you haven’t done anything.”
“Whether I did anything or not doesn’t matter. She just needs to make people think I did. That’s enough.”
I looked at Adrian with determination. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing.”
