Chapter 22

Evangelina’s POV
For the past 2 weeks we have been working on strengthening the veil. We were able to expand
it, but it is weaker now. With the help from all the earth and water gifted wolves we were able to add 100 more huts. All of which is the size of a small studio apartment. We have moved
some of the couples who were in a two bedroom house and only using one bedroom, to a hut. It has been an adjustment to say the least. All of the new pack members are still getting used
to the customs of our pack.
Alpha Maxwell got me the numbers and he lost 181 members, leaving 137 left. Which puts
the number of people in the veil a little over 600.
I am on my way to training for our late night training practice from the extended barrier, when I
feel the familiar tingles start in my heart. The betrayal of my mate being with another has
turned from what used to feel like fire spreading through my entire body, to small electric jolts
that I can manage. I fight back the familiar feeling of loneliness and continue to the training
ground.
“Do you think that he is happy?” Venna asks.
“I don’t know. I can only hope so.” I answer and she huffs.
“Why should we hope he is happy when he is hurting us?” Veena snaps at me.
“I doubt he realizes that he is hurting us. And plus it barely hurts anymore.” I responded to her.
“It may not hurt as much physically, but mentally it still rubs raw. Our other half does not want
us and chooses another. I would rather feel the pain of Xavier’s death again then continue to
feel this way.” She says sadly.
“Don’t say that. Xavier’s death was the worst thing that we have ever been through. I carry that
pain with me everyday.” I chastise her.
“No WE BOTH carry that pain and the pain from our second chance mate.” She responds, then follows up with “Do you think that we will ever be happy?“.
“We may not be happy all the time, but we have happy moments.” I answer just in time to hear
laughing and to look onto the training fields to see the twins have slung mud at Linc.
“You did not just do that.” He says picking up mud and flinging it at Nali, but she ducks and it hits Tali. She stands wide eyed, then they narrow and she picks up some mud and throws it at

him at the same time her sister moves to tackle him. Nalli ended up racking Limo dete the mud could hit him and it hit me and Marie, who I didn’t hear, stepped up next to me. They al stop wrestling around and grow quiet, staring at me and Ware. I swear they are more scare
of Marie than me.
Marie and she turns her head to me. I wink at her and she smirks
Scus on the water from surrounding areas, making the area around us more wet, tuming it into more of a mud bath. It is also harder to train. I do it ever so subtly enough that it doesn’t seem to be tampered with so the girls don’t get suspicious.
“Alright girls. Since you want to play in the mud, we are going to train in the mud.” I say and hear them whimper slightly.
“Come on. Chop. Chop. Or you will be out here longer.” I say and they get up and rush toward me, losing balance on the slicker mud and slipping to fall on their asses. I start laughing an Marie starts slinging as much mud on them as possible, while the girls squeal.
I was laughing so hard I didn’t realize when one of the girls grabbed my ankle, causing me to fall. The mud fight quickly begins. A few seconds later we are completely covered from head to toe in mud, including Linc who felt left out of the fight.
“What the hell is going on?” I hear from behind me. We all stop to see Henry standing a few feet away from us looking too clean. We all share mischievous looks and I nod toward Linc. He understands my unspoken words and quickly vines come up and wrap around Henry’s feet causing him to fall and then drag over to our little mud pit. Once he reaches us we all start scooping mud on him while he struggles against the vines.
After he has the appropriate amount of mud,the vines disappear and I stand up.
“Alright, now that we are covered, it’s time for the real test. Girl’s, Henry, you will be leaving in a week. I want you to show me what you all have learned. Tali, you are sparing with Marie and Nali, you are with Lincoln. Tali, you are up first.” I say and she nods her head.
Marie and Tali take a stance and Linc, Nali, and Henry stand next to me.
“Begin.” I say and Marie and Tali start circling each other. Marie goes in with a series of punches and kicks and Tali evades each one of them, then at the last kick grabs Marie’s leg and yanks her forward to bring her closer to successfully punch her face. She loses her balance on the mud, with the momentum though and ends up tackling Marie to the ground. They end up grappling, Tali reading Marie’s future movements and dodging her.
After a minute and 30 seconds, Marie managed to pin Tali and they got up.
