Watrick’s POV

She stops pacing and stares at me.

What are you saying?” She asks me and I see the torment in her eyes. Why am I such an as*hole?

“What I am saying is that you shouldn’t be upset with him. It’s hard to lose a loved one, and if you could do something to stop that, wouldn’t you?” I ask and she sighs and looks away.

“Depends on the situation.” She answers.

“Well what would you do if the situation was reversed?” I ask and she shakes her head, looking into my eyes.

I notice the small twitch in her jaw as she answers me.

“It doesn’t matter. The situation is not reversed.” I go to retort, but she stops me. “And for the record IF the situation was reversed I would understand and let him make the decision.” She snaps, almost as if she knew I was going to argue another point with her.

“I can respect that decision, but most people are not like you. They want to save their loved ones no matter the cost.” I say and I know by the way she turns her head to face me head on and the look of pure anger in

her eyes, that I said something wrong.

“I HAVE AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO SAVE MY PEOPLE. NOT JUST LOVED ONES, BUT COMPLETE STRANGERS! You know nothing and can’t even begin to comprehend the things that I have done.” She yells. I flinch at the tone, not liking it directed my way. Well that turned south quick.

“I didn’t mean it like that, Evan. I just… Ugh. I didn’t mean it in that way.” I grumble, while running my hand

through my hair.

“Then PLEASE. Enlighten me. How did you mean it, oh wise one?” She asks sarcastically.

“All I meant is that you have a strong belief in letting people make decisions for themselves. If you feel that a person has the knowledge and thought through their decision, you will let them make the decision. Even if it is, to follow through with a path that will get them killed.” I explain and she rolls her eyes. “No, listen. You are a great Alpha and I will do anything to help you.” I quickly say, before she has a chance to argue with me. Her eyes widen as I stand up and walk towards her slowly. She takes a step back with every step I take forward.

“N. No. Y. You. Don’t mean that.” She stutters. I am not sure why she is acting ful, or surprised.

“I do. I do mean that, Evan. I know that I have been a d*ck and haven’t done anything to prove or show that I have changed, but I mean it. Evan. I want you to live, if there was a way to switch places I would do it. You are a far better leader than I am and I know you haven’t seen it, but you have helped me. I am starting to see a difference, with pack members and them approaching me. That is because of you. I mean it’s only happened a handful of times, but still, it’s something. You should be the one to live, not me. Don’t allow my f*ck ups to take your life. Please don’t. Please.” I ramble and plead, now standing right in front of her. Her back has hit the wall and I am now looking down into her beautiful crystalline eyes. She shakes her head and smiles bitterly.

“I’m not going to mate with somebody to save myself. I would rather die than live a life of misery. There is no way to switch places, and even if there was I wouldn’t let you.” She says and Viggo growls lowly, causing a

shiver to run through her body.

Evangelina, I want to help and if showing you that my thoughts about you have changed will do that, then i will. I will spend every day showing you that I regret how i have treated you. You are beautiful inside and out. You are caring, understanding, respectful, non judgemental, welcoming to all. But you’re also stern and strong as hell. Not to mention that you’re strict and hellacious when it comes to training. I. I am sorry that i didn’t realize how perfect of a person you are until now. I wish that I could go back in time, to that first time that we met. I saw the look in your eyes before the vision, you were surprised, but also happy. I could tell the moment you had your vision that it was about me or us, because your happiness quickly turned to sorrow before you masked your emotions. Evan, please let me at least try to prove to you how sorry I am.” I plead. Watching as a tear streaks down her face and she quickly swipes it away.

“You have until the war. When will that be? I am not sure. Could be tomorrow, could be a year from now, which I doubt, but still. You get the point.” She answers and a smile breaks across my face.

“You have no idea how happy that makes me. I promise you, I will show you that I can change. I will prove to you that I can be the mate you deserve and the King that our people need.” I say and she nods at me. Sparks shoot up my chest as she puts her hand to my chest and pushes gently to get me to move. I do and she walks the opposite way.

“Speaking of mating. I have an idea.” She says, businesslike and I nod, hanging onto her every word.

“Since Hadley has escaped, I think we should gather all of your councilors, and anybody else higher up, who could have helped her. You hold a “meeting” to inform them that she was a traitor and escaped during the attack as well as tell them what she was doing. I will reach out to Ingrid, if me, Tali, Nali, Ingrid, and my other seer Celest, can read them we might be able to find your traitor.” She ponders the last part out loud.

“That sounds like a great idea. You think it would work to mention the whole corruption in the pack too? About not helping packs?” I ask and she scrunches her eyebrows in thought.

“I am not sure. I know that although I have trained Nali and Tali, they still struggle with multiple findings. It is quite difficult to wade through memories and futures to find exactly what you are looking for, not to mention doing it all in such a short amount of time.” She’answers and I nod my head. I have seen the aftermath of getting lost or trapped in memories in Evan’s pack. She was worse for wear then.

“That makes sense. But speaking for a short amount of time. There would be about 20 people that I would need to tell. 15 for the councilors and Royal branch administrators, the 5 ish for my top warriors. Will we need to split it up to save on energy for you all?” I ask, her shaking her head before I even finish the question

“No. You have to do it all at once. You can’t risk word getting out before you get the reaction. You need to have whoever you think could have had a hand in helping Hadley there. We can hold a meeting for lower ranks if you believe that some of them are in on it, but it will have to be right after. To minimize the chances of rumor spreading. If there is too big of a group I will gather my trained dragons and fae that have the ability to help tell if people are lying or guilty.” She says and my eyes widen.

“Wait, they can do that?” I ask and she nods, squinting her eyes a little.

“Yes… Fae have the ability to channel a person’s connection to the earth. It’s a weird explanation, but through that they can feel a person’s aura. And some dragons have a gift of lie detection. Some extend further into empathy, but that is a lesson for another day. Either way, we will figure it out. Just tell me when and how many people you will have and I will gather the rest.” She explains and I just nod my head at the information. Sometimes with her I feel like I have been living under a rock when it comes to other species.
