That afternoon, Vince took his parents to Jessica's hometown and buried the urn next to the graves of her adoptive mother and grandmother, creating a final resting place for the woman they had believed was their daughter.
Vince took a picture of his family paying their respects and posted it online, setting the privacy so that only Yates and Timothy could see it.
Yates saw it and stared at the picture, his expression grave.
He knew it was all a ruse by Vince. It was so transparent that even he wasn't fooled, so how could Timothy possibly believe it?
Still, it was clear the Zimmermans were determined to help Jessica get away from Timothy, and they certainly had no intention of letting their real daughter, Salome, marry him either.
But that was fine. He wasn't in a hurry.
He was certain that one day, Jessica would reappear as Salome.
Two days later, the expedited donor matching results for Vince's parents came back.
No match.
The news hit Vince so hard he nearly collapsed. None of them, not a single person in his family, was a match.
They couldn't possibly ask his elderly grandfather to get tested; his age and health made him unsuitable for the procedure.
Even Herbert hadn't anticipated this outcome. There were no suitable matches in the donor registry either.
“Do you know where the black market operates? I’ll go there and find a match,” Vince said, his voice strained.
He had never wanted to resort to such measures, but he felt he had no choice. Every day Jessica went without the surgery was another day he couldn't rest.
“She’s not at that point yet,” Herbert insisted. “I hope you won’t even consider this. As a doctor, I can’t endorse any family taking that route. I understand how you feel—believe me, I feel it too—but we can’t do this! The black market only fuels criminals and their greed.”
“Herbert, how much longer can she wait?” Vince asked desperately.
“I spoke with her specialist. She can hold on for about three months.”
