Goodbye Saintess (by Edelweiss W.S.) novel Chapter 169

**The Unseen Kingdom That Followed Me Into Every Dream by Alyndra Meron Valeen**

As I stood there, a sense of anticipation prickled at the back of my mind, and then Jeanine approached me with her usual briskness. However, when she passed by James, a sudden change washed over her features, freezing her in place. “Mr. Canien? You’re here too! That’s just splendid! I see you’ve already started chatting with my boss, Mr. Grimwald!” Her voice held an edge of excitement, but I could sense the tension lurking beneath the surface.

“What do you think of our project now that Mr. Grimwald is here? Would you like to sign the contract?” she continued, her eyes sparkling with hope.

James and I exchanged glances, both of us momentarily lost in a shared confusion that felt like a heavy fog settling around us. In that fleeting moment, the realization struck like a bolt of lightning: James was the very client I had been sent to meet.

A smirk crept across my face, a mix of amusement and disbelief. “So, you’re my client after all, Mr. Canien? I suppose the fool who wanted to partner with me was you all along.” My tone was laced with a playful mockery that I couldn’t suppress.

I lifted my glass, the light catching the rim as I raised an eyebrow. “Would you care for some ketchup to accompany this delightful conversation?” I couldn’t resist the jab.

James’s expression soured, his cheeks flushing a deep crimson, a clear sign of his embarrassment. It was almost poetic, the way the tables had turned.

Sebastian, the CEO of Sleeping Giant Inc., had spent the evening ridiculing both his supposed rival and his potential client, only to find himself caught in a web of his own making. The irony was almost too rich to bear.

“What are you gloating about?!” James snapped, his voice rising with indignation. “You think you’ve won, don’t you? If I had known you were the one running this pathetic company, I wouldn’t have even considered this project, even if you begged me! Who in their right mind would want to partner with a useless moron like you unless they were looking to sink? This contract is dead in the water!” His words dripped with disdain.

Humiliated and furious, James turned on his heel and stormed out, his footsteps echoing in the silence he left behind.

I shook my head, watching him retreat, a mixture of pity and frustration swirling within me. If I had known he was the candidate, I would have recognized from the outset that this partnership was doomed to fail.
