The moment the words left their lips, a palpable excitement surged through the McKays. They were a family of considerable means, yet in comparison to the colossal Baron Inc. of Astergrad, they felt like mere shadows, ordinary folk in a world dominated by giants.
If they could somehow manage to board the grand vessel of Baron Inc., it could alter the very fabric of Astergrad—perhaps even position them to eclipse the formidable Blanc Inc.
“Dad, you truly are a man of action, with vision that cuts through the fog! I’m calling Victor right this minute!” Jack exclaimed, his laughter bubbling over with enthusiasm. He fished his phone out of his pocket, fingers dancing over the screen as he dialed Victor’s number.
Initially, Victor had been reluctant to hand over his contact details, his trust hard-earned. But after Jack had fervently sworn—his hand pounding against his chest—that he would ensure Claire was delivered to him, Victor had finally relented, sharing his number with a reluctant sigh.
Meanwhile, Lawrence had just dropped Victor off at the hospital, his mind already racing with thoughts of departure. Yet, before he could walk away, he turned and unleashed a torrent of disappointment upon his son, his voice thick with frustration. “You ungrateful fool! Can’t you ever think ahead when you’re causing chaos? Sebastian is not a man to be trifled with. Who gave you the audacity to pursue his woman?”
Victor’s expression hardened, defiance igniting in his eyes. “I don’t get it, Dad. What makes Sebastian so untouchable?”
“Are you really that dense?” Lawrence snapped, his patience fraying. He delivered a stinging slap to Victor’s cheek, his voice rising in anger. “Even if Sebastian runs a small company now, every single project under his command is groundbreaking. Mark my words, that Sleeping Giant will awaken and become a major contender. And now you’ve gone and offended him—what do you think will happen to our family?”
In that moment, Lawrence seemed to age before Victor’s eyes, the weight of his disappointment visibly pressing down on him. He let out a heavy sigh, as if the air had been sucked from his lungs. “Forget it. I must have failed as a father. You’re turning into nothing but a burden. I won’t say more, but take this to heart: don’t let his age fool you. Sebastian is a thousand times more formidable than you. Whether it’s women or anything else, steer clear of him.”
“I’m leaving now. Because of the mess you’ve created today, Blanc Inc. has suffered losses that amount to more than half a year’s profits.” Lawrence’s voice trembled with frustration. “You’ve not only jeopardized our finances but also soured my relationship with Sebastian. I need to find a way to fix this.”
He turned to the bodyguards, his tone sharp. “Keep a close eye on my foolish son. Until he gets his act together, he’s not stepping foot outside this hospital. Make sure he settles down and stops being a headache.”
