Chapter 34
Rhea replied cheerfully, “Yeap. You got it, man!”
A brief shadow of disappointment flickered in her eyes, then vanished.
“Good. I’ll meet you after work,” I said.
“What time?” she asked. “I’ll drive!”
“8:00 p.m.”
“Got it!” She left, clearly satisfied.

The day passed without incident. There were no fires today, so I was allowed to leave right on time. My teammates walked with me to the gate as we chatted.
From a distance, Rhea waved excitedly beside her luxury car. “Yoohoo! Sebastian!”
I was surprised. She did come to get me. She came prepared–the luxury car, her makeup, and the way she dressed. Her long, elegant legs demanded attention. She looked incredible.
Rhea’s voice was loud enough for all my teammates to hear. They whistled and joked in envy.
One teammate joked, “Holy shit, is this your legendary wife?! You never told me she’s a rich hottie!”
“No wonder you never bring your wife to social events!”
“Guys, is he wrong for doing that? If it were me, I’d hide my wife from you losers too!”
“Oh God, give it a rest,” I said helplessly. “She’s not my wife. She’s the girl who got me the banner earlier today.”
They exchanged looks, eyes wide.
“Hell no. You’re seeing a side chick?!”
“I don’t know your wife, but I’m snitching on you now. I can’t believe Grimwald’s such a Casanova!”
“Hey, I’m not like them, Ian. I believe in your integrity. But seriously, where did you rescue this hottie? A castle?”
I feigned anger at their teasing. “Fuck off, man!”
“Oh, okay! So that’s how it is now, huh? C’mon, lads. He thinks we’re cramping his style!”
“Hoes before bros, man.”
“Learning this side of you, Ian, is the biggest disappointment of my life!”
They waved and left.
I turned to Rhea with a helpless stare. “Does it kill you not to be so extra?”
“Me, extra? This is my car! And I always dress like this,” she said matter–of–factly.
Right. Rhea was supposed to be some rich heiress or something.
“Fine, whatever,” I grumbled. “Let’s go.”
“Adventure awaits!” she chirped, slipping into the driver’s seat.

Rhea drove me to an upscale restaurant. “Let’s dine here! I’m a regular. There’s booze and snacks!”
“Sounds good.”
She picked a quiet, inconspicuous corner and ordered the best wine the place had. She promised we would be drinking all night.
Within two minutes, the table was covered with empty wine bottles.
“Whoa, whoa. Do you drink that much?!” I asked.
She didn’t flinch. “Hey, the debt’s paid after this. I say we focus on having fun! Remember–bottoms up!”
She poured me a glass, then one for herself. She toasted me and finished her glass, refilled it, and downed it in one gulp.
And she just kept going.
