I fell silent. Rhea knew everything–the hopelessness in her eyes said it all.
“That Baron guy refused to admit he’s engaged to you when I asked,” I said. “Maybe things have changed. Maybe your family backed out of this whole arrangement.”
“So what if they canceled my engagement? They’ll just set me up with some other CEOS or trust fund kids they can find. That’s my fate, isn’t it? To be nothing more than a pawn in political marriages. That’s why I insist on finding my soulmate, or at least someone I love.”
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she hugged me tightly. She leaned close, her breath warm in my ear. “Why are you hesitating? Am I not alluring enough? Not pretty enough? Or are you worried about what your ex–wife will think?”
In a flash, I saw Hera and Edmund standing on that stage together.
That traitor, with her double standards. Rules for thee, not for me. She was the fakest woman I had ever had the misfortune to meet. Why should I care what she thought?
The alcohol and Rhea’s seduction were working. Despite my stoic expression, I was starting to grow hard and hungry.
Rhea’s eyes reddened. “I’m literally offering myself to you, Sebastian! What more could you want? Why hold yourself back? Be a man already! I won’t even blame you for this…”
I made my decision. I pulled her into a fierce embrace and kissed her hard. “Don’t tell me to stop when I’m about to show you what kind of man I am. If you agree, I’ll take on more than this.”
Rhea responded with passion–wild and eager.
Baron paced his office in the penthouse of The Baron’s Hotel. A storm of emotions churned inside him. For some reason, he felt like he had lost something he believed was his to someone else.
“Fuck, is he the guy they’re looking for or not? If not… did I just get played?” he muttered, staring at the yellowed photo in his
hand.
A knock came at the door.
“Mr. Goldman, were you asking for me?” a voice said.
“Come in.”
The hotel manager, who also served as Baron’s right–hand man, stepped inside. “I heard about the mess Ms. Lowry caused. I’m very sorry. I’ll fire her.”
“That won’t be necessary. I need you for something else,” Baron said, waving him off. “A guest checked in today–a Mr. Grimwald. I want you to dig up everything you can: his family, parents, hometown. Especially whether he was adopted or found as a missing child. Anything you find, report to me immediately.”
“Understood, Mr. Goldman.”
The manager turned to leave, but Baron stopped him with a sharp command. “If he’s the one I’m looking for, tell me right away. If not… I want him gone from this world. Clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
I had no idea that my supposed identity was why Baron refused to admit to the engagement. In fact, I had no idea how many eyes had begun to pool around me. What I did know was that when I woke up the next morning, I found myself alone.

Rhea had left. All there was to remind me she was here was this single piece of paper.
[Dear Friend,
[As promised, our debt is cleared! Yippee!]
